Chris Evans of the Canton Charge - fallsdog - 02-26-2017 10:02 AM

Something we haven't stopped to discuss this season is the success of former Kent State guard/forward/center Chris Evans. He is having a great season in the NBA D-League. Has anyone been to a game to see him play?

I went to a game back in December. He was the best player on the court that game. He spent the night matched up with Wayne Seldon for most of the night and outplayed him. Former NBA wings Perry Jones and Jakarr Sampson were in the game too and if you didn't know you'd think Evans was the former NBA guy. From looking at box scores it looks like his numbers have dipped a bit since Canton signed another scoring guard. There's a lot of selfish play in the d league.

The one area Evans struggled with in the game I was at was quickness on defense. He was slow closing out on Seldon although Seldon is smaller and quicker so it was a tough matchup for him. Seldon beat him off the dribble several times but literally every time Evans managed to reach around and knock it away from behind. His jumper looked much improved as well.

Chris Evans was cut from Canton - I think it was a numbers thing, with Kay Felder coming down, and Larry Sanders asking for a week in the D-League.

You'd think his numbers - 17.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.3 apg. 45% shooting, 36% 3P, 1.9 steals per game - should get him a look somewhere else in the D-League

From what I read he was (is) having knee problems and was out due to the injury before finally being cut.

The knee was an issue, but sounds like the bigger deal was they couldn't agree on his role. Also sounds like his next gig will probably be overseas.
