Cougar Baseball - joshadam84 - 02-17-2017 02:02 PM

Cougar baseball kicks off their season at the White Sox Invite out in Glendale, AZ. They play NIU today, South Dakota State tomorrow, and finish it up with SDSU and NIU again on Sunday.

NIU is picked to finish 4th (of 6) in the Western Division in the MAC. They went 24-32 last year.

SDSU was picked to finish 2nd in the Summit. They went 22-35 last year.

Given this is so early, I wouldn't say this will gave a gauge of the baseball team for the year. Nonetheless, if they can come out of this 2-2 or a winning record that would be a great start. The Cougars went 13-42 last year so it'd be nice to see them make a step forward and get above the 20 win mark this year.

The only thing that I like about Chicago State is Albert Carpen the best hitter I have seen at the collegiate level. I wish Chicago State had 6 more Carpen on the team.

He had a solid sophomore and superb senior year offensively. Could've done better on the mound but definitely a quality player for the Cougars then. There were three Carpen brothers all together on the team which is impressive in itself!

Cougars had a nice opening day beating NIU 11-1!

I saw that not a bad way to open the season tho.

I'll take it! The Cougars ended up going 1-1 out in Arizona.. one game was postponed and made up today. Another was cancelled due to rain.
Today, they split a pair of games against NIU. Currently 2-2 on the year now.

I stopped by the baseball field when I went to the gcu bball game there. The field looks really nice but the seating is pretty limited. Does csu charge admission to its games?

Brillo,

Sorry I missed your post here. Yeah, it still pretty new with 2014 being the first year it was in use. Seating is definitely limited. Unless there's been a change, the admission should be free.

After starting the year with a 3-2 record, the Cougars have went on a losing skid going 1-11 in their last 12. Looking like much of the norm, unfortunately.
