What Famous Athletes Are From Your Town Or City? - EvanJ - 02-09-2017 02:17 PM

What famous athletes (if any) are from your town or city? If you live in a big city, look for athletes from your neighborhood of the city. I live in a town with 22,097 people according to the 2010 Census. Noah Rubin, who is 196th in the ATP world rankings and who won one round in each of the last two Australian Opens, is from my town. He and I went to the same three K-12 schools.

I grew up in the Los Angeles/Orange County Metro, so there are too many to count. Going by the "neighborhood" approach: Billy Bean (not that one, this one) and I were on the same Little League team and good friends for a few years when he lived around the corner from me. Mary Decker is probably the most famous (infamous?) athlete from my high school. And I just found out that tennis pro Steve Johnson also attended my high school - he's currently ranked 30th.

I was born in a small town in Iowa that is about 20 miles from Burlington Iowa.

Kurt Warner was born in Burlington, although later his family moved to Cedar Rapids Iowa. Earlier this month, Warner became the first native born Iowan ever elected to the NFL hall of fame.

I live in a town of 20k. 3 pro athletes have come from it. 1 played MLB for 2 seasons (Dean Anna). 1 played NBA for 2 seasons (James Augustine). The third is my brother who is a rookie in his sport (fortunately his listed hometown is his birth hospital so it's not traceable online).

I'm a Yankees fan, and Anna debuted with the Yankees. In his tenth game, he moved from shortstop to pitcher in a game the Yankees lost 16-1. In his second season, he had one MLB plate appearance. Last year he didn't hit well for Triple-A Memphis.
