OT: MWC #2 bowl shutting down - pesik - 01-25-2017 06:18 PM

The poinsettia bowl announces this morning that they will be shutting down after 12 years

It was the MWC second best bowl after Las Vegas .. note the MWC doesn't get the vegas bowl every year

2018 will be the year; mark my words, things will start looking up soon in terms of bowls, TV deals and new members.

And why The Miami Beach Bowl remains a brilliant idea for the AAC. Increase the payout to attract bigger name opponents should be this league's next move.

This will hurt byu a lot. They were slated to play in it a few times in the upcoming years.

They should also try to buy (or negotiate a tie in) one of the NY6 bowls (Cotton, Peach, or Fiesta).

BYU is the perfect opponent for Miami for the next few years. I think they are in Hawaii in 2019. We should grab BYU for 2017 and 2018.

yup...just not a lot of interest out there for G4 conferences like the MWC

RE: OT: MWC #2 bowl shutting down - SublimeKnight - 01-25-2017 08:42 PM

This is so G4.

Deport G4 schools to FCS and please build a wall between FBS and FCS.

Ha! There will be another one to fill its place. Cannot figure why anyone is a) surprised that a bowl dropped and b) would worry. The Miami Beach Bowl has never had a title sponsor. You don't think it is at risk of dropping if attendance remains horrific, and cannot find a title sponsor? The St. Pete, Birmingham, and Boca Raton could all suffer the same fate if they don't find sponsors.

The city I live in is trying to get a bowl game. Been to some of the meetings. As is Austin, Fort Collins, etc. There is just a moratorium on new bowls right now.

So tell me again why this is a big deal?

BYU, COME ON DOWN!

BYU would shut it all down before they admit they're a g5.

This. And if you don't understand that, you don't understand BYU.

I think they were talking about playing them in bowl games, not having them join the AAC. Byu's pride won't let them join a G5 league with Utah in the P12.

The AAC owns Miami ... it wound shut down as long as it's beneficial

It's significant because all bowls are not created equally...poinsettas has byu now but the termination will almost certainly get byu to look elsewhere for a bowl slot..

You are replacing your second best bowl vs byu for what could be a new bowl vs MAC #7... You will get w new bowl to replace but the quality might drastically lower

RE: OT: MWC #2 bowl shutting down - Bearcats#1 - 01-26-2017 05:56 AM

Would like to see BYU work out a deal with bowls with the AAC.
