ACC Scheduling News - Hokie Mark - 01-12-2017 03:53 PM

Lots of news is trickling in about future scheduling changes as ADs are trying to fit those last couple of games into the 2017-18 schedule (to be released around the end of this month).

For example...

UConn will move BC home game on Nov. 18, 2017 to Fenway Park and the Huskies will be the host, per @blauds.

Maryland and Virginia schedule home-and-home football series: 2023 at Maryland, 2024 at Virginia.

Virginia also added VMI to their 2020 football schedule. Cavs will host Keydets on Sat., Sept. 12, five days after facing UGA in Atlanta in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff.

Kansas and Boston College will meet on Sept. 14, 2019 at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA and on Sept. 19, 2020 at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, KS.

Kansas and Duke will play on Sept. 25, 2021 at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, NC. The series will conclude in Lawrence on Sept. 24, 2022.

Boston College has also added a second (sooner) series with Rutgers for 2019 and 2022 (to previously reported series scheduled for 2026 and 2027). The new games will be played at Rutgers’ High Point Solutions Stadium on September 21, 2019, and at Boston College on September 3, 2022.

Florida State, West Virginia to meet in 2020 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

CBS Sports also reported that the Big XII has approached both the ACC and the Pac-12 about possible scheduling alliances in the future.

I approve of all of these. ACC finally getting some sense about their scheduling. Good things.

Looks like Cuse/Vandy will be a go in 18+19. Cuse host in 18.

Thanks for sharing these details, Mark. There are some appealing games here (give or take Kansas) without league teams going all out for self-punishment. Overall I'm pleased with the effect the new CFP structure is having on scheduling. There's a real balance to be hit. And we can all celebrate the cold water the process has thrown on sportswriter polls.

2017 Louisville schedule is absolute garbage

Purdue (in Indianapolis)
Murray State
Kent State
Kentucky

At least we draw North Carolina from the Coastal this year instead of Duke.

yep week 2

RE: ACC Scheduling News - WakeForestRanger - 01-12-2017 08:00 PM

I am against a scheduling alliance with the Big XII. There is no benefit to the conference in doing that. Any match up that people want to see can be scheduled by the individual schools.

You might have been better off in 2017 drawing Duke.

If you threw Kansas and UConn into the B1G it looks like the ACC has already made a scheduling alliance with the Big Ten.

Yeah, I don't see anything which says that the ACC pursued such an alliance, only that the Big XII did.

Remember that time the Big East inquire about a scheduling alliance with the ACC? The ACC did form an alliance... with Miami, VT, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame and Louisville.

Perhaps the ACC will form an alliance with some Big XII teams some day.

I'm glad to see some mutual understandings starting to take shape. And why not? It's as natural for ACC schools north of the Carolinas to schedule games with B1G counterparts as it is for our southern members to meet regularly with SEC teams. Throw WV into the mid-Atlantic mix and everybody gains something.

Who isn't down for more games like Pitt-Penn State?

Or Clemson-Ohio State? heh heh heh

04-cheers

It's understandable to be having imperialist expansion thoughts. Where my dreams of conquest tend (like the ACC's so far) to involve dominating the Eastern time zone, there are those here who get sexed out by the idea of an Atlantic Coast Conference with corn state schools. I know.

03-idea

It's worth observing that the CBS story about alliances was mainly about the Big 12(10) approaching the Pac-12. The Pac does have more room for growth than other leagues and it has cast a covetous eye on Texas and Oklahoma schools before.

Agree 100%. A scheduling alliance with anyone is idiotic for the ACC, and that includes another partial memberhip (cough cough Texas).

You want to schedule someone, schedule them. Don't force BC to play Ole Miss or FSU to play Illinois because of some stupid alliance. No benefit there. The nature of this conference means that some schools are going to benefit playing the Big 10 more, some the SEC, some smaller privates anywhere.

And the Big 12 (outside WVU) makes almost the least sense of any of them. They've only got athletes in one state, and they've already got 9 Big 12 schools and the SEC West fighting over them. Virginia Tech isn't going to make some great Texas recruiting inroads by playing TCU or Kansas State on a semi-recurring basis.

The ACC has NOTHING to gain there. Schedule who makes sense for you. In any conference.

Yeah ... but this thread is touting out-of-conference games with freakin' Kansas, UConn, Maryland and Rutgers. Purdue and Kentucky fit right in with these heavy weights.

2018 - kicking off the season with Alabama is already scheduled, and will be a tough one.
