Hell of a hire. I'm interested to hear what the story is, because you don't typically see coaches willingly cut their salary nearly in half. I'm not saying it's a bad thing for UCONN I'm just wondering was the relationship with Gus bad or did you guys offer him like a HC in waiting or what?

Uconn AD is from Auburn and he's probably head coach in waiting but ya he had to have known his time was short. Great news for uconn as he will be major upgrade from the crap Diaco was running on offense.

i think he is offered 350k as a head coach because he had no other choices. And neither did Uconn

He is one of the hottest OCs in the country. Why would he get fired? Many UCONN fans wanted him as the head coach. This is due to our new AD Dave Bennedict's connections. First our AD hired Edsall for $1M (he was making $2.1M at Maryland) and now this. There must be something cooking. He must be the head coach in waiting or something.

He gets away from under Gus' shadow. He will get to run his own offense at UCONN. UCONN football under Diaco and coach PP has been a disaster. I hope this new team will turn things around quickly.

Auburn’s Gus Malzahn on Rhett Lashlee going to UConn: “This is a great opportunity for Rhett to implement and run his own offense”.
He is willing to take a pay cut to prove he can do it on his own without Gus. I am sure UCONN has him as the coach in waiting once Edsall retires. Our new football oriented AD is putting his mark on the program one hire at a time. UCONN fans are just happy Diaco is gone.

Our AD came from Auburn. He also got Edsall to take salary of $1M with performance bonuses. Perhaps Rhett got similar kind of deal. Pay for performance. It makes perfect sense for me. UCONN just spent $3.4M buying out Diaco with booster money.
