Nothing says breath of fresh air like a 60 year old boxer.

RE: ESPN 94.1 - Cyniclone - 05-22-2018 10:59 AM

Odd that he says sponsors (or lack thereof) is why his show isn't daily instead of twice weekly. During his heyday at The Score/ESPN, it seemed like half his shows were remotes from sponsor locations, and plenty of sponsor name-drops on the shows themselves.

RE: ESPN 94.1 - jumpshooter - 05-22-2018 11:07 AM

A) His act wore thin with sponsors
B) He's physically unable to get out to remotes, does the show from his apartment, or wherever he lives (some say a hotel)

HM's story was a complete joke.

That may be, but he seems to have a cadre of regular guests; I guessed that he also had one of diehard sponsors and that would give him enough to make a daily show a possibility (this could also be a cover for bad health; if he's doing two shows a day from his bed, he's probably not in a condition to do five, much less the remotes, as you point out).

Of course, how many people even know he has a show? Easy for everyone to move on while he was cooling his heels during the non-compete period, and then doing his show on non-sports stations meant there wasn't as much opportunity for carryover listenership.

Morbid thought: Harry did the story because it might be his last opportunity to talk to him; a morbidly obese man with health problems pushing 70 isn't a good long-term bet.

The mere fact Tony can get a guest like Evander Holyfield should tell you something right there. On a certain level these guys are all friends and "came up" together.

Im sure Holyfield would do a show with me if I asked. No one has cared about him in years.

What story did Harry do?

Saw this on Twitter. Phil Steele talks with Cattles. I haven't listened yet but apparently they touch on ODUs potential for this season;

He was on with Hatfield Saturday as well; it's magazine-selling season.

The ODU part starts at 7 min. Talks about being the 16th most experienced team in the country and to expect a big improvement from Stevie Williams based on how he progressed through the season last year. Jokes about Wilder calling out the media a couple years ago for the low ranking and said he didn't make that mistake again this year.

RE: ESPN 94.1 - ODUCoach - 12-18-2018 09:24 AM

I just wanted to jump in that I listened to Cattles for 30 minutes on my drive home last night and the only thing I heard was talk about the mediocrity of the NFC East.

But, more importantly, I'm really enjoying Matt Hatfield's show "757 at 6". It's an hour long show on local sports. He spent a lot of time yesterday talking about our game against Syracuse and then had Jack Castleberry on the show (he's now an assistant at The Citadel). It was so much more interesting than anything Cattles had to say. It just sucks that it's from 6-7, as I'm usually just getting home and having dinner with the family.

I agree, Hatfield's show is soooo much better and more interesting than Cattle's.

RE: ESPN 94.1 - Monarchist13 - 12-18-2018 09:36 AM

Absolutely. I wish he had the drive time slot.

Put a parrot in front of a radio at 8am and by noon it could do Cattle's afternoon show... same thing. 03-zzz

Hatfield is so much better than cattles. Hatfield has a youtube channel with great interviews.

I listened to it yesterday and was very enjoyable. A caller ask the question how the wins over VT and SU could help with recruiting to which he answered his opinion and threw the question to Harry Minium, who called in. I dont remember the specific answer but both summed up that it depends but the wins could have a positive effect on recruiting. Here's the interview:
