Is there a board has a lot more fans chatting on it for Liberty? I know of a sea of red but didn't see anywhere for fan to start topics similar to this.

RE: Fans? - GE and MTS - 12-17-2016 08:05 PM

There is flame fans or whatever it's called. That is THE board to talk Liberty. I don't go there based on a past experience but if you want more LU fans then that's the spot.

RE: Fans? - NewTimes - 12-17-2016 10:24 PM

Unfortunately, the lack of interest on this board is directly related to the position of JFJr and how his out front necessity to be on and make news, influences many potential fans to stay away. It's sad that few local residents support the athletic program regardless of their beliefs, as sport fans.

LU has been more prone to take 2 steps back, then 1 step forward recently, and with a grand total of 1 FBS playoff appearance, that's simply not enough to generate fan interest. As others have stated, the woman's BB program has taken a recent tumble but Coach Green is a proven winner and one can believe he will again compete on a high level as he moves more towards athletic players vs. large, less athletic slower players. This future success cannot be felt with Gill and the FB program. Does anyone feel excited and highly optimistic about the current status and future of the FB team?

I watched the JMU game as they beat, at home NDSU to advance to the FCS championship. It was only 2 years ago that many felt, including myself, that LU was on equal footing, and some felt LU exceeding JMU's on field success. Does anyone feel that now?

JFJr, you've dragged the perception and success of the program to lows with your offensive and unwise actions and missteps. This week I was called by a Flames Club staffer asking to renew my membership with a contribution. I regrettably told the call I could not financially support the program with the recent actions of JFJr. And it's a safe bet that there are many other potential fans who are lukewarm about LU, not exclusively because of on field success, more because of in school blunders by JRJr.

I am very confident in saying that this specific board has less Liberty fans because 99% are on flamefans and not due to Jerry Jr. Some who want a voice rather than be with hundreds of others and get lost in conversation may find this board more acceptable. Most probably never heard of this board which is why they aren't here.

They most definitely know. They just like to be in their own little safe space free of anyone that disagrees with them. I like being part of a forum that has a bunch of schools like this one. It gives me an opportunity to see what's going on with other schools and have healthy debates. Go check out the sea of red forum it's basically an LU circle jerk.

I just find it difficult to navigate on there as a guest. It's poorly laid out IMO.

I like it. Rarely post on it anymore. But find it educational and entertaining. It's good to have multiple pages to read. Remember, LU has a tiny fan base.

I was wearing my LU sweatshirt at the Louisville airport. Walked past a guy who said "LU." That struck up a conversation and found out he had two kids in school there.

I run into LU Alumni or folks that know about LU all the time. I don't even live on the east coast anymore so it is surprising. Right now I'm in Baghdad and I still run into folks that know about LU. I think our fan base is larger than you think. We aren't getting 16k+ attendance in FB because we have a tiny fan base. Some FBS schools don't even have that.

My wife runs into alumni all the time in Columbia SC.

Are they sports fans though? Do they support the school in any way, i.e. - Flames Club, LU clothing, attendance at games, watching games?

The most recent couple we met was decked out in LU memorabilia and said they planned on going to homecoming. So overall, from what I've seen, I would say yes. I'm going to try to go to the baseball tourney since it's like 15 minutes from my house.

Does watching LU games on ESPN3 or the BSC Network have any tangible benefits for LU?

I try and get friends, family, LU Online students to watch LU and join the Flames Club.

I know family will pay much more attention when I return from Korea and my daughter and son are attending LU. I hope my son walks on to the LU football team and my daughter will be on the archery team.

Yes it has benefits. Not being invisible to the world is the number one benefit. And it's like a 2-3 hour university promotional video on game day.

I agree with this for the most part. The only thing is that if nobody watches then what is the real benefit? That's why it is important to watch and get others to watch as well so that the networks keep moving Liberty up to better programming.
