No LeBron, Love, or Kyrie tonight - HornLakeTiger - 12-14-2016 09:18 AM

All the LeBron bandwagoners are gonna be incredibly pissed.

Oh well. Go Grizz. 04-cheers

RE: No LeBron, Love, or Kyrie tonight - Mimi - 12-14-2016 09:42 AM

The thousands of children...who were looking forward to seeing LeBron, will be pissed.

To easier to randomly insult random others...still whipped we see.

My boys are Grizzlies diehards. They were clearly raised right. 04-cheers

Joking, of course.. (It's okay to laugh every now and then, Mimi. I promise it is.) I do feel bad for the kids who were getting these tickets as a Christmas present, etc.

But for the grown adults who show up to Grizzlies games wearing Cavaliers jerseys when they were wearing Heat jerseys three years ago...I hope they paid hundreds for this game tonight. 04-chairshot

Sounds like a deal was brokered with Cleveland to trade out home wins and rest players.

Didn't want a repeat of Golden State

RE: No LeBron, Love, or Kyrie tonight - salukiblue - 12-14-2016 11:59 AM

Karl Malone (ages 36-39)

Average # of games in reg season: 81
Average minutes per game: 36

39 year old Michael Jordan:
82 games, 37 mpg

Kareem, from age 32 to 41 never played fewer than 74 games a season and averaged 79 games a season.

What does that mean?

Jordan played every game he could because he knew someone was there paying good hard money to see him play. I think the NBA may have to take a lesson from Broadway. If the stars aren't playing, you are able to go to the box office and get a refund.

RE: No LeBron, Love, or Kyrie tonight - salukiblue - 12-14-2016 12:24 PM

The rationale for "rest" is just kinda silly. There are enough built in days off in the season as it is and even if a guys plays 30 minutes in a game, it is actually over a 150 minute span. So there is 30 minutes of playing and 120 minutes of standing and sitting.

Just checked: the NBA regular season is 168 days long. The MLB's is 212 and they play about twice as many games as the NBA.

Stub Hub can expect a lot of buyer scams for tonight's game.

it's a sabermetrics thing. Spurs started it and it has caught on. If the NBA cared, they would go down to about 60ish regular season games and the quality would be better.

The number of games is fine. It's been 82 games since the 1960's.

It's the damn playoffs that are too long.

The playoffs for Cleveland lasted 63 days this past year.

They played 21 games in those 63 days.

The NBA finals took 17 days to play. Ridiculous.

If the NBA didn't let 50% of the teams into the playoffs, or put the 1st two rounds back to best of 5, they could tack on another 10 days to the regular season for rest.

It's all a money grab.

I know it's all about injury prevention but I wonder how the warehouse worker working 60 hours a week feels about millionaires being too tired to play basketball

well it is a business and the players are reaping the benefits big time now.

I agree with Stephen A. Smith about this. Rest at home, play on the road. I feel for those wishing to see those guys play. Reminds me of Kobe's farewell tour. Got tickets for my boys and I, along with my son's girlfriend, a huuuuuuge Kobe fan. Kobe chose that night to "rest."

Christmas night in Chicago. Enormous TV audience. Kobe sat. At least he appeared on the bench midway through the second quarter, but.....

It's entirely disgusting the league is letting the Cavs (and other teams) get away with 'resting' their players. I remember when I went to see Jordan play back in his prime. I would have been utterly shattered to spend all the money I had, gotten off work to come down to the arena and Jordan decided to 'rest'. The league should fine players/teams for doing this.
