That one time Delta Hub days when Delta cancelled Toronto and AC started it and then Delta added it back up to 5x daily just to run AC off and herd everyone thru Detriot once AC left, yeah **** Delta. But... to really **** Delta would be to use AC as a one stop to Europe.
Now let's get:
Alaskan Air to Seattle
Jet Blue to Boston
Amercan to LAX
UA to SF or Southwest to Oak
Allegiant to San Diego
And......
Norweigian to London Gatwick at once or twice weekly for a seasonal summer route on an upcoming A321neo LR and go from there.

Only other one I could see is Vancover and it's Asian connections but not with a crj200 like they are using on the Toronto flight.

My cousin has flown to the Philippines about 7 times. Four times via Vancouver, but he had to go through Detroit from MEM. So that indeed would be a nice direct.
Getting a direct to Toronto is really really nice news.
