5-7 Bowl Bids - Saint Martin - 11-23-2016 03:41 PM

Last year, 3 teams went bowling with 5-7 records. The 5-7 teams are chosen on the basis of multiyear Academic Progress Ratings. 14 teams who could finish either 6-6 or 5-7 stand above UC in the APR scores. It remains quite unlikely that UC goes bowling this year on their academic prowess (and a win at Tulsa would be necessary, of course).

I also included opponents remaining for the teams that only have 4 wins:

APR Team
995 Duke (4-7) @ Miami of Florida
992 Northwestern (5-6)
990 Vanderbilt (5-6)
984 North Texas (5-6)
981 Boston College (5-6)
979 Indiana (5-6)
977 Maryland (5-6)
975 Notre Dame (4-7) @ Southern California
973 Syracuse (4-7) @ Pitt
972 UCLA (4-7) @ California
971 Texas (5-6)
971 Mississippi State (4-7) @ Mississippi
970 Northern Illinois (4-7) @ Kent State
969 NC State (5-6)
967 UC (4-7) @ Tulsa
967 Louisiana Monroe (4-7) vs Louisiana Lafayette
960 Arizona State (5-6)
958 Mississippi (5-6)
956 Texas San Antonio (5-6)
955 Charlotte (4-7) @ Texas San Antonio
955 Southern Miss (5-6)
950 Louisiana Lafayette (4-6) vs Arkansas State, @ Louisiana Monroe
949 Nevada (4-7) @UNLV
947 Akron (5-7)
947 South Alabama (5-5) @ Idaho, vs New Mexico State
945 SMU (5-6)
941 Texas Tech (4-7) vs Baylor
940 Georgia Southern (4-7) vs Troy State
938 Florida International (4-7) @ Old Dominion
936 UNLV (4-7) Nevada
935 TCU (5-5)
935 New Mexico State (3-7) vs Appalachian State, @ South Alabama

Teams to root against:

5 wins already, behind UC in APR, and can reach 6 wins and nab a bowl spot:
Arizona State
Mississippi
Texas San Antonio
Southern Miss
Louisiana Lafayette (must lose one of remaining 2 games)
South Alabama (must lose 2 games)
SMU
TCU (must lose 2 games)

4 wins already, ahead of UC in APR, and will win a tiebreaker if they get to 5 wins:
Duke
Notre Dame
Syracuse
UCLA
Mississippi State
Northern Illinois

It does not matter to us whether the other 8 teams ahead of UC in the APR lose or not, because they will take a potential bowl slot away at either 6-6 or 5-7 from UC.

14 teams to root against, and the Egg Bowl won't end in a tie. Therefore 12 teams to root against, two of them twice. 11 of 12 (13 of 14 games) must lose for UC to get a bowl. Not sure I wanted one anyway.

I really appreciate the level of analysis you did. Truly. Unfortunately, Tulsa will more than cover the 22 point spread. As ashamed as I am to write this, I hope Tulsa wins by 40. I want there to be no reason whatsoever to retain Tuberville.

I was hoping for a UC win, but now I am not sure. If we get a bowl bid at 5-7, that means I will lose my daughters near the holidays to play in the band while the football team loses by 40 points in a bowl game humiliation.

x3. This is the third week that I have been on the other teams wagon. It is like pulling the scab off to restart the healing.

Scab? It's like cutting off a limb to keep the venom from spreading.

Please don't delude yourself. Even if the Tulsa team got food poisoning they would still win. If UC won it would be 3-0 and any bowl desperate to invite us could expect no UC fans except parents to attend.

Makes me think of Hershel on the WALKING DEAD.

Is this thread for mental torture? Emotional terrorism? I will never root for UC to lose a game. However, it wouldn't hurt my feelings on Friday if they did. I think we all know what will and won't happen anyway. Take away the FCS win and this team is 3-7 folks. Make that 3-8 after Friday. No Bowlcation this year!

Please stop.
