Medical Redshirt - Chief_Wolverine - 11-17-2016 02:35 PM

Any reason Hare didn't apply for it? I can't imagine the NCAA not approving it after he suffered a season-ending injury in the 2nd game. Considering when the injury occurred last year he wouldn't have qualified, and I've read nothing indicating he's coming back next year either, so...

He might want to call it a career any way

Pretty sure he graduated last May. He's got a full semester of grad credits and probably doesn't want to go through another rehab?

If there's any chance at all of a medical redshirt AND he wants to return, all power to him. But with the realization he won't be going to the NFL why bother returning. Time to get on with his life.

A different quarterback on the roster has applied for a medical redshirt...

Interesting. I would be OK with that.

I talked to Drew at Comiskey about a medical redshirt. He said he's going to give the NFL a shot. He said the draft class for QB's is incredibly weak. He also couldn't apply for the redshirt and go through the NFL process at the same time, so he had to choose one. If he tried for the redshirt and was denied, he wouldnt be in the NFL mix until 2018, and he didn't want to lose a year.

That's quite the ambition for someone who is rated the #36 QB in this "weak" class....

Has to be Maddie. If so, that would really help the cause next year.

Hard to say, he missed all year last year but IIRC Bass missed pretty much his entire senior year and he didn't get one. Although I don't think he applied for one.

He'll end up missing 3 games this year and had two season ending injuries. I think he's got a shot but I don't really know enough to give an accurate guess.

Rules for med redshirt. Not sure Maddie could get one but Chad Yes not sure Chad ever used his reg red shirt so he can play for sure next year if he wants. Maddie I am afraid is done. Unless you can get one for a year that was not your most recent ??

The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

RE: Medical Redshirt - 7 - 11-17-2016 05:28 PM

He's applying for one because he missed all of 2015. The fact he missed 3 games this year just adds to his case.

Also, random tidbit that doesn't mean anything, Monty tried to change balls at halftime because he thought the one they used was a little too new but Idaho wouldn't let them.

Let's hope he gets it. Very small sample size but it looked like Santa needs another year to develop. Strong arm, some decent runs, but definitely did not look comfortable throwing the ball. Would be nice to have Maddie for another year and then Santa/Hall can (hopefully) develop. Honestly I'm not sure Graham should continue playing football based on injuries alone. I have no idea how many concussions he has had but I have to imagine it's more than a few.

I think Hare can have Siemian type success in the NFL. He needs to find the right fit.

Beebe never used his redshirt so that's what he's using this year. I believe one of the first press conf they said that. I would assume Albert smalls is using his redshirt this season too? I know he played the first game but don't believe he played the whole thing.
