The rejection of progressivism - bullet - 11-10-2016 06:34 PM

One message to take away from Donald Trump’s presidential victory: Americans don’t want to be ruled. They prefer self-government. The election was not about liberals versus conservatives. Rather it was a contest between Progressivism and the anti-Progressivism of which Trump is the democratic—even the crudely demotic—embodiment....

Because he got fewer votes than the Democrats?

I don't know if a lot of Trump supporters were really troubled by these things or if it was primarily economic, but I know I was deeply concerned about all of this.

Let's do the run-off thing. No candidate hit 50%.

Hold a new election next week with just the top 2.

Keep in mind that most of the Libertarian votes swing toward Trump.

RE: The rejection of progressivism - Lord Stanley - 11-10-2016 06:43 PM

Trump won because a very large number of people are tired of the government. Obamacare. War on coal. The EPA grab of all waterways. The judges. The hatred the coastal elites have for normal people. The bucket of deplorables. The attacks on the south and the flyover states. Little Sisters of the Poor having to pay for contraceptives. Fines against wedding cake bakers. Open borders. Attacks on 2nd amendment rights. The outsourcing of jobs.

Instead of working to understand ANY of that, Democrats preferred feeling smugly superior to these voters over getting their votes. How'd that work out?

Why is this so hard for liberals to understand?

And the Dems still have more support than Trump. And Trump is going to find that it will be literally impossible for him to govern, especially if he continues hiring like he has today.

White House, Republican in office
Congress, both the House and Senate with Republican majorities.

Tell me again, where is the power in our two cases?

Republicans control the White House, the Senate, the House, most of the State Governerships, and most of the state legislatures.

I'd say that the Dem's need to get their crap together, otherwise they won't exist in a few years.

Except- House. Senate. Oval Office. Supreme Court.

Other than that, he's facing a juggernaut, indeed.

Couple thousand newly unemployed professional protesters, anarchists and other riff-raff.

Shouldn't be an issue. 07-coffee3

How is it illegitimate when it was voted for by the people?

You got fewer votes than the opposition. Illegitimate mandate.

For the president only. What about every other level of government that is seeing a republican takeover?

Too bad it's consolidated in California

RE: The rejection of progressivism - ark30inf - 11-10-2016 07:45 PM

People voted against the machine.

Trump was a hand-grenade that Republicans threw to blow up their party machine and its hereditary dynasty. He then became a hand-grenade that Midwesterners and others threw into the Democratic Party to blow up their machine and its hereditary dynasty since Democrats could not do it in their primaries.

To the shock and dismay of the coastal elites....FLYOVER COUNTRY MATTERED.

The carefully crafted electoral map, had a loose thread.

I'm afraid that if white males keep up their unearned privilege, the kerfuffle over HB2 is going to look rather tame.

Dems won the raw vote for Congress (both houses) as well.
