New Coverage for UNCW from Star News Including Important Links from Alex Riley - sctvman - 10-28-2016 11:52 AM
Eric Detweiler's position at the Star-News has been eliminated. Alex Riley will take over his position and the "beat." Detweiler is going back to Maryland. This is per his Twitter feed just now.
Hey everyone,
My name is Alex Riley and I'm the new UNCW beat writer over at the StarNews. To clarify, Eric's spot was not eliminated. He left Wilmington for personal (and very worthy) reasons. Don't worry, the StarNews isn't cutting back on Seahawk coverage and I look forward to picking up where he left off.
I posted a note on the DubHub blog yesterday, but I wanted to fill you guys in here in case you hadn't seen it - Our blog system is being a bit dysfunctional and has been for quite some time. Unless I'm in the actual StarNews building, I can't post content to it and it's impossible to upload photos anymore.
With that in mind, we're making a bit of a switch and moving all our "blog material" over to Facebook notes at Facebook.com/StarNewsUNCW. (The good thing about that? You don't burn a click by reading it on Facebook for all you folks who like free things) Also, the Facebook page is going to be very active with posts I encourage you to comment on. I'm going to be doing a lot more Facebook live videos and more. There will be a plethora of free content out there, hopefully enough to satisfy your Seahawk needs.

Have to say he sometimes tended to be a little too negative for my liking. Granted, I'm definitely a homer, but that was a justified critique. Good dude and sucks to see that happen though.

It is very ugly in all forms of media today. Here in Charlotte, we had one company end up owning the local AM news/talk station, WAAV on steroids, and the top local sports talk station. The deal closed today.
Over the weekend, the sports station announced a member of the morning show retired. He was in his mid-late 60s and had been in poor health in recent years, so it seemed a normal announcement.
Today, the news/talk station announced one of its on air personalities was being let go and a news anchor reporter was also let go. Keep in mind, the new company that owns both stations takes over tomorrow.
I'm in Wilmington a couple of weekends a year and I'm impressed with the media coverage UNCW receives and how many radio stations the market has. Compared to the coverage UNCC and Davidson receive in Charlotte, UNCW has it good.

Yes and No.
No: I can't just stick a post at the top of the forum.
Yes: So what I did was merge Alex's post with the original so it's at the top of the thread and "stickied" the thread to the top of the forum. People shouldn't have any issues finding the link and won't have to scroll through a gazillion of the forum threads to find it in the future should they need it later.
