Surely if Idaho gets to a bowl these next two seasons, they'll stay FBS? - luvyosef - 10-25-2016 08:46 PM

I stood in Boone, NC shivering my big hiney off last Saturday and even though Idaho lost to my Mountaineers, I was impressed with how much they've improved.

I would hope if they make a bowl and win it that their powers that be will reconsider dropping back to FCS. Even FBS independent would be a good hold out because the G5 conferences are going to have to realign to suit geographic concerns sooner rather than later.

Good luck the rest of 2016 Vandal players, fans and coaches. Go Apps!

Sad case of pathetic university leadership.

I think it's more like now where to go. If WAC was alive then that'd be a good spot. With no WAC, only option is independent which is death.

So FCS it is.

Some poster on an FCS board I've glanced at keeps swearing up and down the WAC is coming back in 2020 with Idaho and a bunch of teams leaving the Big Sky and that an announcement is coming up as early as November.

Would be nice that's for sure.

So you've met NoDak? He posts on here too. He's been claiming that the Big Sky was heading FBS for 4 years now. Went as far as to FOI a whole bunch of realignment stuff from different schools. He keeps pushing back the actual announcement date at regular intervals.

Most of us ignore him. He particularly hates the Sun Belt, feeling the league should have invited half the Big Sky teams to FBS status a few years back and that the league was going to destroy us or something now that we didn't.

Hey, if you guys want to keep us in the Sun Belt I'm in. I think we're actually helping the conference rating at this point. At least, we're #4 in the conference in the Massey composite right now.

But our president would probably just insult you guys with a crappy Powerpoint that takes gratuitous shots at member schools. So we're likely screwed. We should take a shot at indy for a while but President Visionary Genius decided to skip that step.

You guys are just lucky he hasn't taken you back to D3 yet. The only other school where I've heard rhetoric out of a President basically pushing athletics aside for academics was UAB, and we all know how that situation went.

I believe there will eventually be a new small western conference form within 10 years. Some of those Big Sky teams are going to want to move to FBS at some point, and clearly the MWC has no room.

That door was shut and CCU got in before the lock...

Why would Big Sky teams want in FBS?

yes, they are best off where they are. they have their rivalries that they would have either way and they get some big money ooc games every year. the only changes would be that they would be eligible for one of the 50 or 60 meaningless bowl games but they would get less money for their ooc payday games and according to the rules that dont get enforced very often, they would have to add some seats to their stadiums so they would be out some cash for upgrades. in their world they are sitting pretty as it is. the only driving factor I see on the horizon is that with an overload of D1 schools, the bigs may start limiting stuff like march madness and other top level playoffs to fbs football schools

I say a bowl win will be a nice going away present back to FCS.

I agree that there aren't a bunch of Big Sky schools lining up to play FBS football but FBS schools actually get considerably more money for their OOC money games than FCS schools. More than double, usually.

It probably won't matter. A quote from a very well placed source "President Staben has no interest in paying for a FBS team". But it won't hurt. A bowl bid plus alumni stepping up plus a western league forming would probably need to happen too.

Staben lied about the costs to stay FBS, he lied about the fan support for FCS and he just got caught fudging the enrollment numbers which wasn't an outright lie but was incredibly misleading. I don't trust him one bit. The terrifying thing is if he fires our incompetent AD he will find a yes man to replace him so the department is between a rock and a hard place.
