Monson: Big 12’s big play makes saps out of BYU and every other expansion candidate - firmbizzle - 10-18-2016 09:45 AM

The Big 12 made us look like fools just to leverage ESPN to pay them more. I can't wait until that ****** conference dies.

There's a political cartoon spoofing climate change denial where someone is standing at a podium in front of a list of benefits to protecting our environment - clean air & water, sustainability, energy independence, etc... and someone is saying "what if it's a big hoax and we make the world better for nothing?!"

Same applies here. If your school makes itself better in hopes of expansion, then worst case you just have a better school.

Well that depends on how you made yourself better. Did you grow yourself in a healthy way through increased donations and sponsorship's or did you try to grow as quickly as possibly using student fees and other long term unsustainable sources with the hope that future P5 TV money would bail you out? If it's the former then yeah worst case scenario is you just have bettered your program for the long term. If it's the latter then you might be screwed financially.

Did you have to borrow from China to make it a better place so you owe 2xs in 10 yeaes? So the next generation has even less for your better world?

Actually, we all just pimped ourselves out to be told that we aren't good enough to be Iowa State.

I don't want to get into this too much since this isn't the Spin Room, but we're all concerned about the next generation. You've got valid concerns about the cost. But I'm concerned that the long term cost of ignoring this problem will be much greater than the cost of dealing with it now. As the saying goes: if not us, who? if not now, when?

Exactly. And while I totally agree with your point as it pertains to "Global Warming," the BXII version of it manifests itself in the form of higher tuition for the same degree. Case in point:
My son entered The University of Memphis in 2010. He was studious enough to achieve a 30 on the ACT, which got him the presidential scholarship ($7500). That combined with the TN Hope scholly ($4000), the Hope Merit scholly ($1500), and a ($1000) band scholly almost exactly covered all of tuition, room, board, and books.
Three years later my middle child (daughter) got a 31 on the ACT, and got pretty much the same exact amounts on the same exact scholarships. Sure, tuition has gone up year to year, but still, she can make do by living in a nearby house a few blocks from campus with 3 other roommates.
My Last daughter is graduating high school and entering UofM this coming fall. The Presidential Scholarship is down from $7500 to $6000, the Hope is down from $4000 to $3500. We ran the numbers. Tuition has gone up so much and scholarship awards have gone down so much that if my daughter gets the same level as our other two kids, We will be around $7000 dollars short per year.
So in 7 years (2010 -2017) we will have gone from full coverage to about 3/5ths coverage for the same award of scholarship. Now, since at least the presidential scholly is school money and not state money, at least that part of it is being pumped into.... what? endowment, new buildings, land acquirement, ect. But my third child's degree will not be worth more than my son's degree.

Folks whining about how they were treated byt he B12 is sour grape city. The B12 owes you nothing and you had every right to not participate. The B12 concluded that there just wasn't two suitable candidates at this time, that is why they did their due diligence. Should they have added two teams just to appease the 11 participants and/or the media/fans?

What a ridiculous straw man.

Are you a millennial? I notice they are who are most brainwashed/misinformed on "climate change", and I wouldn't be surprised to see how such a cartoon which completely misrepresents the issue would move the needle in their mind.

You brought it up. We got an interview and we stink, imagine if we actually won at anything. If we had Cinci or Houston's record over the past 10 years, we would have been in and probably would have helped the candidacy of one other. I know people don't want to hear it, but Tulane is a great fit, aside from the losing (which is obviously a big problem but can be overcome, see Rutgers, Colorado and Maryland).

Hey Tulane fan, you may be accustomed to taking it and asking for more (like your football team has to memphis for past ten years). I don't think we need your advice.
