New Threads for the Panthers - boroeagle2 - 10-10-2016 10:23 AM

I saw on Twitter you guys will be Under Armor starting July 2017. Congrats, I guess we see now why the Nike contract expired.

Welcome to the UA family Georgia State!

The perception of the brand is much improved. So it's not a bad move.

Why no deal this year though?

Can't say that I've seen something like that happen before.

The perception is good for UA. Has been in doubt within the past few years? Just curious.

I've always been a fan of UA.. My typical game day polo is a GS UA polo.

Steph Curry has done a lot for making the brand have the "cool" factor with kids. I remember years ago no one would be caught with that stuff on, except for their workout clothes.

I've assumed UA was a top of the line brand for a while, as they've had a deal with Auburn since I met my wife in 2006 and was absorbed into AU fanhood. I didn't realize Nike was so loved until Georgia State switched from Adidas to the swoosh in...what, 2012?...and everyone seemed really excited about it. I like the idea of being Under Armour now.

And they've definitely gained a ton of recognition over the last decade; their deals with Notre Dame and Auburn are two of the richest in the country, I believe.

UA is without a doubt more popular with the younger folk than Nike. It is a good deal. I dont think apparel deals really affect to much though.

I expect not much to change other than a UA instead of a swoosh

Nike still is king with kids as far as sneakers. Ask any kid what shoes he wants, he'll tell you Jordan's.

I read in an article at the start of the season about how UA is going after Adidas schools. One of the coaches from an Adidas school complained how he wanted to get certain kinds of shoes for his players, but Adidas didn't offer it to its collegiate clients. Even after the coach said they were willing to pay extra. Adidas schools were limited in what they could get from them, mainly based on how much they thought a schools uniform contract was. NMSU's AD referred to the Adidas uniforms as ones for "high schools".

I will say this UA does pay attention to its schools. The president or head honcho for UA Collegiate was at NMSU's fall practice. Schools like Georgia State and NMSU will have access to the same kind of uniforms as Auburn and UCLA.

Love nike. But gotta do what we have too. just nothing god awful like the Maryland flag duds. They need to be gentle for these old eyes.

We are not on the radar of programs that would get some serious redo by any sports apparel company,

That is true. Hopefully some modest changes, nothing major.

Only if they tip toe.....

Where I am the overall brand is UA. I see a ton of UA shirts, shorts, hats and socks.

for the youth the top two brands are Under Armor and Nike, I don't think there is a huge distinction between which they like more

I'd prefer UA over adidas personally. But I'd also prefer Nike over UA.
