Basketball lunch - bobreinhold1 - 10-05-2016 02:47 PM

Coach Rhoades hosted his first of two luncheons today. The season can't start soon enough. The freshmen look like they're ready to contribute right away. Mike says Ako Adams has shown more in two days than any freshman point guard he's had in 21 years. Chad Lott is healthy and will guard the opposition's top scorer. He also will be a team captain I a year or so because of his great leadership skills. All three freshmen big men are looking good. Andrew Drone will now be able to play 3 or 4 minutes, sit for 3 or 4 and come back in. Last year he had to go 8 minutes at a time because of our depth problems.
Mike is a tireless worker. He recruits like an assistant, and goes all over the country. We only have one scholarship for next year, and we're going after some quality people. We had 19 recruits and their family in for the Baylor game. Brent Scott has helped with the bigs and also in recruiting, especially in the Dallas area. Mike had some good things to say about our new S&C Coach. We're trying to schedule a lot of our former SWC foes, but a high RPI is hurting. As we get better we will get better schedules. Mike and his staff are extremely positive and really tireless workers. Any fan who gets a chance should attend the free lunch next week and see for yourself what's happening. Call or email Rhett Bonner if you'd like to attend.

Wish I could be down there. I love the energy that Mike Rhoades brings to the program and am looking forward to the product on the court.

Is membership in the 3 Point Club a requisite for attendance ?

No, it's open to everyone, and the lunch is free.

Anything come from the lunch that can be shared publicly?

Really the same things that Coach Rhoades is saying publicly at CUSA Media days:
- we are much deeper and more athletic than prior seasons
- we will play fast, play hard, and cycle in our depth to keep players fresh
- we are still very young team
- we have chance to surprise people if we work hard and mature quickly

I think Mike is a tremendous coach and genuine person. This season and the overall trajectory of the program are exciting.
