WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - schwebbs84 - 10-02-2016 12:07 PM

2016 college football rankings, Week 6: How high will Clemson and Washington surge?

RE: WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - toddjnsn - 10-02-2016 12:23 PM

Nice! I figured we wouldn't be... I figured we'd be around #30.

But good to see we cracked that one. We'll be in both obviously if/when we beat NIU next week.

We can't let being 5-0 go to our heads! :)

Nor can we let PJ Fleck coach LSU. :)

First time ever ranked. What a time to be alive.

I'm shedding a tear (kidding but it is great to see us up there). Thank you coaches and players. This group deserves a ton of support!

It's so great to be reading about WMU rather than paying attention to this horrible Lions game.

Yeah, this is a brutal effort by the Lions.

Excellent! What an outstanding year thus far.

Great we are ranked, sucks that we aren't getting the same respect in the AP poll... Heck NDSU gets more respect than us.

For fun, how high do you think a big ten team, let's say Nebraska would be ranked if they had our schedule:

Non-conference games:

Central Michigan (W 49-10)
North Carolina Central (W 70-21)
Georgia Southern (W 49-31)

Start of conference play:

Illinois (W 34-10)
Northwestern (W 22-21)

I bet you they would be in the mid to low teens....

But, don't let the circumstances dictate your behavior. Let's go out there, run the table, and show the college football world what we have in Kalamazoo!

There are six MAC coaches on Amway panel.

With Toledo losing Friday more of them probably voted for us.

Just missed in the AP poll. #26, 9 votes behind Virginia Tech.

It's a great day to be a Bronco!

So 25 in coaches and 26 in AP....not too shabby

Not bad. Notice that in the coaches poll, EMU got one vote. Is BG's coach on the panel? LOL. Also notice which MAC team no longer is getting votes.

RE: WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - toddjnsn - 10-02-2016 01:49 PM

^^^ YES. It's not us cracking the Top 25. That's not the biggest news.

It's EMU getting a vote!
Quote:Others receiving votes: LSU 77, Michigan State 71, Maryland 70, Georgia 65, Air Force 59, UCLA 50, Virginia Tech 50, Oklahoma State 43, TCU 32, South Florida 24, Arizona State 23, Auburn 21, Texas Tech 11, San Diego State 10, California 7, Indiana 3, Troy 3, Southern Mississippi 2, USC 2, South Alabama 2, Minnesota 2, Wake Forest 1, Appalachian State 1, Eastern Michigan 1, Middle Tennessee 1.

If someone told me pre-season that:
- We'd be 5-0 after STOMPING @CMU, beating NW, Whipping Illinois, and Whipping GA-Southern
- NIU would start off 1-4, and EMU would be 4-1 with a vote in the polls

... I would have LAUGHED uncontrollably.

RE: WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - Moomba - 10-02-2016 01:52 PM

Creighton is doing a really good job at EMU changing their whole culture and getting that team to play. Doing it the right way it looks too, they're not overly loaded with p5 like talent, more looks like a typical MAC level team that is playing as a unit.

Good coaching.

RE: WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - Nacho - 10-02-2016 01:57 PM

EMU has the chance for a bowl game for the first time since 1987. Good for them.

RE: WMU cracks Amway Coaches' Poll at No. 25 - MileHighBronco - 10-02-2016 01:59 PM

I'd have to agree but realistically, look at who EMU has played. I saw the Wyoming game and they DO look improved. Maybe 2 or 3 wins is not the ceiling for them anymore.

That is good for the entire conference.

It's not votes, it's points.

25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second, etc. down to one point for a 25th place vote.

Considering how bad they were for how long, this is the best job I've seen in a long time. I watched a lot of them this year, they win and play as a unit. No outstanding talent to really speak of in particular.
