Troy at Idaho - VandalBasher - 09-25-2016 11:58 PM

The early line has the Vandals at +12.5 point dogs to the Trojans at home. May they receive the same technical malfunctions the Vandals experienced last year.

Go Vandals.

Seems slightly high -- I was expecting us to open about +10. Looking at the schedule this summer I thought we'd need to at least split the UNLV-Troy stretch to get to bowl eligibility, and seeing how good Troy looks this year I'm glad we already won the UNLV game.

Still, the game is in Moscow and Linehan finally seemed to be coming around by the end of Saturday's game, so we've got a shot in this one.

First stop on the Trojans' redemption tour...couldn't happen to a better group of barbarians, I say...

I'm assuming this game is on ESPN3? What time?

Dangerous game. I can't tell yet just how good Idaho really is. I hope Troy goes in looking for payback for the loss at home last season.

RE: Troy at Idaho - Atlanta Trojan - 09-26-2016 09:28 AM

I think Idaho might be better than we give them credit for. Wouldn't be shocked to see this a close game.

Troy at Idaho - AtlantaJag - 09-26-2016 10:37 AM

I'm shocked no one has pointed out that the OP refers to Troy as the Spartans.

I assumed he's just messing around.

I would guess it was just a simple mistake. Spartans and Trojans are easy to mentally mix up and I would assume someone from Idaho isn't that familiar with Troy.

Spartans, Trojans, Romans...all the same. Who cares...

Actually the Trojans and romans hated each other.

I am not sure they ever met... But I could be wrong...

However, Rome and Carthage on the other hand, that was pure hate, kinda like UA vs AU...

Yeah, didn't Aeneas take some other Trojans with him to a spot at or near what would eventually become Rome?

Allegedly?

RE: Troy at Idaho - LatahCounty - 09-26-2016 02:49 PM

So, looking at Troy stats it seems their D has done a great job forcing turnovers this year. Meanwhile, Linehan hasn't been great most of the year for Idaho but he's taken care of the ball very well. Should be interesting.

Defensively, Idaho is better than they've been in recent years, so that should help.

Troy fans -- your run/pass ratio is more tilted toward running than I expected. Is that normal for your offense or is it just what circumstances required?

And then the Vandals also sacked Rome back in the day...

Why is Troy so much better this year? Scoring offense stats looks great and scoring defense isn't too shabby, either.

Should be more balanced, actually.

Ideally, slightly more emphasis on passing, we are not there yet though.

Second year in the system. Recruiting the last two cycles under brown has been much better. True freshman Jabir Frye has added a huge spark to the team.

Our DC was Clemson's DC from 2005 to 2008. He had Top 15 defenses at Clemson. The man can flat out coach. Head Coach Neal Brown was Texas Tech's OC from 2010 to 2012 and had Top 25 offenses all three years. Our DT coach was EMCC's DC (149 sacks over three years) during three national championship runs. We really believe we have the best coaching staff in the SBC. Our coaches P5 experience and results from those schools way outperform (to my knowledge) anyone else in the SBC. Nearly everyone on staff had been a coach at Troy beforehand. This is a dreamteam TROY staff through and through.

HC Neal Brown was Troy's OC/WR coach from 2006-2009, all four years were title years. DC Vic Koenning was Troy's DC 2003-2004 and had a 10th ranked defense one of those years. Vic was most recently North Carolina's DC.

Our OL coach Matt Moore was at Troy for one year during a title run, 2006 I think. He's been at MTSU, LATECH, and Texas Tech where he posted Top 10 in sacks allowed. We currently have only been sacked once, by Clemson.

Neal has also stressed recruiting length and size. Was are way bigger than 2014, and somewhat bigger than we were during Troy's title run. We are running a monster 231 back behind a line that's 6'4"+ 300+.

TL;DR: We caught a shooting star getting a staff with this much P5 success.

With somehow, even more incest.
