Longest losing streak in the nation - Dtownboys - 09-24-2016 07:02 PM

It appears we now have the longest losing streak in the nation at 7 games. Iowa State led before today with 7 but they won. This sure is like the late 90's except we have way too much talent to be this bad.

Well Sean, you know that nice graphic we like to show with all the nice football stats over the last 5 years? Get ready to burn it if you dont fire Rod ASAP.

His response. We are on a 24 hour schedule. We will watch the film and correct. Whoever we play next is a tough team and will not be easy.

Funny thing is that the teams in the MAC are not good.

We are one of seven teams left winless.

Buffalo beats Army.

We are now one of six winless teams.

What was it as little as 2 seasons ago we were in the top 5 for FBS wins/wining percentage in the lat X years (along with Alabama, Oregon, etc.), wins/conference wins; and now we are in the picture for the longest loosing streak! Sort of makes the point about where Rod has taken our program!

RE: Longest losing streak in the nation - NILAW - 09-25-2016 12:21 PM

Here is the quote from the El Paso times under "losers" in week 4:

Northern Illinois: The Huskies are in an absolute free fall, and now there’s a very real possibility that Rod Carey’s job is in danger. Northern Illinois lost its seventh consecutive game dating to last season; this time 28-23 to an FCS team in Western Illinois.

It would have been impossible to see this coming for the program that has been the gold standard in the Mid-American Conference for most of this decade, but something has gone very wrong of late. Saturday represented an opportunity for the Huskies to get back on track after a disastrous start to this season; instead they fell behind 28-7 after three quarters and couldn’t quite complete the comeback.

No surprise it is all over the internet - what happened at NIU, and all answers are Carey!

We are not just in the picture for the longest losing streak. We have the longest losing streak, period. We are back to where we were nearly 20 years ago. This time we have a lot more talent whereas back then we were awful. So it does seem that this does go toward coaching and not just players.

Many people here say we are just too talented to be where we are. I don't see it. Where is all that talent and why has it not manifested itself?

I'm not saying we are loaded but we do have some talent. Doesn't seem to be used right otherwise we could have beaten either Wyoming or WIU. Still much better talent than 20 years ago.

Huskies are not as talented but coaching has made the difference between 0-4 and 2-2

I must say I agree with you. Losing winnable games usually falls on the coaching, referring to losses when favored to win.

As much as it pains me to see us lose, this is all on the coaching staff. I do not care how good WIU, we should not have lost to a FCS school. Especially in IL. It is a disaster and will most likely be similar to the 2--7 season, without all of the injuries. There is simply no excuse for this. Carey must go.

This is the thing I keep coming back to. Besides WYO, the losses haven't really been close. There was some fight in coming back against SDSU and WIU but 7 losses, 1 truly close game.

To me that means there's a problem at the core (overall talent), not at the margins. And at this point- that's squarely on the staff who built this roster.

The only position groups I really feel ok about are what? RB, TE and maybe WR and DB? And feeling good about TEs and like feeling good about K/P.

RE: Longest losing streak in the nation - NILAW - 09-26-2016 06:00 PM

I don’t know if we have the same level of talent we did say in 2012 (except at QB obviously). We simply don’t have the talent drop-off from last year to explain this year. It looks more like the talent we have is not being used properly (and in some cases not at all – I’m thinking of Pugh and Tears as examples), poor preparation, and most of all the players look like they are playing for themselves and each other and for Carey. I completely disagree that the players are tanking to lose games on purpose (perhaps with the exception of the Boise bowl game) and have quit. We don’t’ have a true “team”; Carey has lost the team and nothing is going to get that back!
