So Who is going to be our next beat reporter? - michaelf - 09-22-2016 09:34 AM

Now that Jason is leaving to host his own radio show, on 92.9?

Jason leaving for 92.9

Any names?

Why can't he do both? Geoff and Gary are still writers and doesn't Tillery do radio?

I've heard him sit in on various other people's shows and the dude bores me to death.

And I hate that Martin is leaving Geoff's show, I like the chemistry they have developed, they have sort of an odd couple vibe.

He definitely could, but the CA article specifically says he's leaving to do that. Sounds like he wanted to escape the ridiculousness that is the new CA ownership and found a good out.

Yup... I guess he could assist with some of the 92.9 website/social media updates.

To say the least it would be interesting.

Never imagined Jason would be a radio guy, like others have said he didn't have the strongest presence when he was a guest on radio. I hope now that his loyalty to the basketball team is over he'll open up. Just him finally giving all the behind the scenes stories of that Pastner era would be entertaining enough until he finds his voice. I'll give him a shot.

Hope Jason never resorts to the clickbaity schtick and charades that Calkins and Martin did, and did pretty poorly.

HoopDreams was a journalism major, has previously written sports stories for the CA, and is a self proclaimed basketball savant.

If he sticks to sports he will be fine

Jason did well on SportsFiles on WKNO and his view of his job description at CA as beat writer kept him from doing more investigative/expose' type stories. "Just the facts Mam."

We need another Wolken or DeCourcey type who is not afraid to express their thoughts. Please not a Lynn Zinser!

It's refreshing to see a dad stand up for his son on a message board. 04-cheers

I'm kinda torn between HoopDreams, TigerStrong and SailorJerry.

I never thought Smith enjoyed being beat writer. He may be leaving the job on his own.

The CA will probably save money and make the football beat writer cover basketball too

Considering the state of the newspaper, we might have a combined U of M basketball/football beat at the CA with AP/Gannett coverage filling in the gaps.

I'd be good with Schad handling all things Memphis

No love for the Stuke?

According to Decourcey a while back, we were one of few schools at our level to have separate BB and FB beat writers.
