TROY vs NMSU discussion - Atlanta Trojan - 09-20-2016 11:16 AM

Thoughts here? Larry rose will be back in play from what I hear. Troy is currently a 21 point favorite but I get a feeling its going to be much closer than that but who knows. Last year Troy won 52-7

The 20.5 line is surprising. NMSU has been better than expected early on.

RE: TROY vs NMSU discussion - TroyFootball05 - 09-20-2016 11:21 AM

Troy was ahead 45-7 at halftime last year. That's a full game in two quarters. This game will be much, much closer. No way they don't want revenge.

RE: TROY vs NMSU discussion - Atlanta Trojan - 09-20-2016 11:36 AM

If you watch the video towards the end, Coach Brown said he's never been in a game where they score didn't match what really happened in the game as last years 52-7 win....He said NMSU dropped about 4 catches that should have been TDs. Also said we are evenly matched. etc.

NMSU 52
Troy 7

Oops! Sorry, I was having a dream.

Should be a closer game than last year but I don't see us beating the Trojans. I think your defense is better than what we have faced so far. But we still cover.

NMSU 24
Troy 42

Our defense is still struggling - a lot. We are more aggressive than we have been in past years, better penetration on the front line, but we still make a ton of mistakes.

Our offense will come to play, and the addition of Larry Rose III will certainly help, though I doubt he will be at full strength, but I don't think we will be able to overcome our porous defense. I do think we will be competitive though.

And, I think Troy is probably better than Kentucky. My guess: 45-35 Troy

I like your prediction. Seems pretty realistic - 42 -24. I see it being pretty competitive the first half then Troy gradually pulling away in the 4th. You guys seem to be much improved from previous seasons.

We were just plain bigger than USM,we won't have that advatage against NMST......

No offense to NMSU, but I believe USM is a better quality team. Size is only a small factor. They actually beat Kentucky and have a respectable record from last season which they brought a lot of those players back.

No offense to USM, but I believe they played Kentucky when Kentucky could afford to lose. Week 3 came in and they gave us their all. Kentucky was actually leading agaisnt USM for most of that game but that's just my opinion. Not saying we are better but I do believe we have a very capable offense. Defense is slowly getting their act together hopefully.

I think Troy will be the toughest defense you have faced this year.

I agree! Troy defense has been stout thus far. It will be very interesting to see how NMSU with LR3 goes up agaisnt that mighty Troy D. All I ask for is a good game and great showing from NMSU.

I was just stating the fact that USM was a better quality team then NMSU regardless of their size in response to your previous post, in which I think most people would believe as well until proven otherwise. Just stating the truth, no need to get so defensive

No football program goes into a game believing they can "afford to lose", especially an SEC team playing their home opener vs a G5. It's likely they gave they same effort in their season opener as they gave to you in week 3.

RE: TROY vs NMSU discussion - Atlanta Trojan - 09-22-2016 11:28 AM

Agreed... UK hasn't had 6 wins since 2010... they know they can't afford to lose ANY GAME. Especially against a G5 school... they have lost their fair share of G5 games and I assure you they were there ready to play.

I feel like y'all are misinterpreting my words. I didn't mean they literally wanted to lose that game agaisnt USM. However, USM caught Kentucky off guard. I'm not insuating NMSU is better but I believe Kentucky was not going to let another "payday game" turn into a loss. Therefore their program and coach could not afford to lose to NMSU. Although, we did put up a good fight offensively we have a lot of work to do on defense. I'm hoping NMSU gives Troy all that we got. Just to see where our football program stands in the Sun Belt this year.

NMSU surprises, beats Troy.

How did USM catch Kentucky off guard? Pretty sure they have a week to prep for a team just like any other team in the country. I think NMSU would have lost regardless. That's just my opinion though
