Another objection: KSU student leaders speak out against BYU joining the Big 12. - BigEastHomer - 09-13-2016 09:43 PM

And gay people are part of that world too,

My point exactly.

BYU isn't going to get into the Big 12. I could see the Big 12 agreeing to a 5 or 6 game scheduling agreement with them.

Quite surprising from such a red state.

http://www.kstatecollegian.com/2016/09/14/opinion-big-12-sga-statements-against-byu-more-harmful-than-helpful/

KSU student opinion-these student association statements are a bad idea.

"....The problem with statements like those made about BYU by Iowa State’s SGA or that K-State’s SGA makes now is that they might be part of the reason we could be in the same boat as we were in 2010 if the conference ever does get close to failing again.
Statements like these show we are not willing to tolerate working with those who are different from us, that we see ourselves as somehow better than them because we’re with the ‘in’ crew that is the Big 12, even though that was only because Texas wanted to preserve the reported $15 million annually that it gets from its own television network.
Even worse, though, is that statements like those by Iowa State’s SGA make members of the Big 12 look like hypocrites. They carry the implication that we somehow see our failings as less significant than other school’s failings.
Let us not forget that we have two private Christian schools in our conference, one of which is heavily overshadowed by criticism of its handling of sexual assaults on campus. Yet still, we imply that our failings are less relevant than those of BYU...."

If the Big 12 can't agree on the only indisputably P5 type candidate still available out there, the others have no chance. Expansion going to be tabled for another year.

The irony with Kansas state and Iowa state is if the big 12 blows up, they probably are forced into a league with byu. Also, where the protest against smu and gay rights if that is really the issue

Since TCU got in, I don't think the "P5 type candidate" label just covers BYU. The usual suspects discussed easily meet that standard - and most clearly surpass many of the schools that are in the "P5".

And yet none of them have enough support.

Some like UH have as little as 2 votes only (and forced votes at that)

That's why this farce ends in no expansion.

Twitter much?

How do you know what is going on in the Presidents offices?

Whether this ends in no expansion or not, this has never been a merit system.

There is justice in this world.

What is sad is that the angry kids are most likely a minority as the majority of KSU kids aren't interested one way or another. They ultimately get painted with this.

--- OR ---

Because of Iowa St and Kansas St student opposition, BYU changes its discriminatory policies as a prerequisite to being invited to the Big 12.

Why isn't anyone here talking about that?? Wouldn't that be the ideal outcome??

I will agree with HOD on one thing, which is universal in humans regardless of anything else: those who become motivated will make themselves heard, while those who aren't motivated stay silent.

This handful of so called student leaders do not speak for the University. They do not even speak for the student body

SMU,

but as you fully know, that's not how it comes across to everyone else. And how it comes across is what matters.

I agree that is how it comes across, but I believe the powers that be at these Universities know better.

To the contrary, I think university leaders are keenly aware of PR and how things look.

I agree that'd be the ideal outcome but due to its doctrine based in religious dogma, that's highly unlikely.
