Fire Up Chips

Congrats CMU!!! Great win!!!

RE: Play of the year - toddjnsn - 09-10-2016 03:04 PM

I don't understand the controversy -- the rule that the final play shouldn't have been done.

IMO, a game should NEVER end on a penalty in the penalized team's favor.

Replay of the crazy winning play.

There is literally no logic in that rule. I agree.

Just punt that ball or run backwards lol

Actually it is the play(S) of the year.

Unlike what happened in the Bahamas, this took TWO unbelievable plays to produce the unbelievable outcome.

W/out the extra play, the game was over.

If you watch the whole game CMU was hosed on several big plays. This was redemption!

In particular, on the pass interference call against CMU mid-4th quarter and when the referees picked up the flag and didn't call holding on the OSU TD

The TD by OSU where the holding flag was picked up was insane. Our guy was tackled for crying out loud.

Not to mention on OSU first TD their player stepped out of bounds and it wans't even reviewed.

WOW. What a win. Congrats Chips

ESPN is saying by rule (and they show the rule) the game should have ended and the untimed down should not have been played, in essence giving OSU the win instead of CMU. I say, they need to rewrite that rule to state that if a team commits a penalty that results in a loss of down with no time left on the clock and that loss of down results in a turnover on downs, then the other team is given one untimed down. Kind of like a game cannot end on a defensive penalty.

RE: Play of the year - george14 - 09-10-2016 04:35 PM

I'm seeing that. However there does not seem to be any logic in that rule. I can't rationalize why that makes any sense because you are literally rewarding a team for committing a penalty. I think they will make the rule more clear.

But they can't overturn the win. Gundy would have needed to protest on the field and it doesn't sound like anyone knew the rule. Same thing happened with the Lions last year against the Seahawks, there was a strange rule about batting it out of the endzone or something. Oh well.

RE: Play of the year - John52168 - 09-10-2016 04:39 PM

To me, it seems as if the OSU quarterback made that play more of a defensive play. Why didn't he just take a knee?

RE: Play of the year - Bobcat2013 - 09-10-2016 04:51 PM

Was watching the Baylor SMU halftime show and one of the commentators proclaimed that the result of the game should be overturned because it is too important regarding the CFP..... that really pissed me off when he said that.

Luckily the other guys on the show agreed that if OSU deserved to win then they should have played better. Duh.

I will be interested to see how this plays out during the season. Oftentimes, the MAC gets what appears to be great wins, then said team (i.e. OKST) goes on to have a less than typical W-L season.

Now that CMU & Houston have already put a black eye on OK & OKST, will those teams still do well?

And if the B12 as a whole end up missing the CFP because none of their teams excelled this season, the MAC may be able to say they had a hand in driving them to expand...lol!

OK. Talk about deja vu. We were there in Stillwter today for the Hail Mary finish. The last time we saw a Hail Mary? When we went to the Bahamas Bowl and CMU did it. Great win. Ignore the whining. Stillwater still is in shock. Hah!

RE: Play of the year - cmufanatic - 09-10-2016 07:02 PM

too funny dave! and minus a few extra laterals the final play by a cmu wr was almost exact except for the opposite end on the endzone, crazy!

It was 4th Down and would have been the same result, stopped clock, turnover on downs.

He SHOULD have turned and ran backwards for 4 seconds.

Agree. That was the right play. Run toward your end zone or wherever for 4 seconds.

Don't throw the ball out of bounds down field while in the pocket with no receivers anywhere near it.
