$550,000 Pay Day - BSKB 24 - 09-09-2016 09:25 AM

West Virginia is paying us $550,000 to come there in 3 years. That is a handsome payout. ECU next year is only paying us $300K. Over $400K next Saturday to go to Chapel Hill.

Hopefully we can smoke a cigarette when it's over. ;>)

Nice slate of FBS-payday games thru 2019. All interesting opponents and all drivable distance wise for fans. Great job by Bourne getting these deals done, the guy deserves some credit here. Pretty good job with that $550,000 payout from WVU.

Oh these are all also against opponents of interest where we have a shot to be competitive.

good slate of opening games for the next 3 years.

05-stirthepot If we were FBS these paydays would be $1,000,000 per P5, OOC game. I can't recall if that was mentioned in JB's "Money Matters" blog? I think he only talked about expenses. 05-stirthepot

Hey I am most definitely a pro-fbs guy here too......but as long as we are FCS these are some very good games and good deals for JMU.

Looking forward to opening at WVU. It will give us a great idea of where the team is before we start AAC play 05-stirthepot05-stirthepot JK Relax guys

I'm not sure what our final take was from the WVU/FedEx came as I think it was dependent on attendance but I'm impressed by the $550k payday. Without confirming it, I think that will be the highest JMU has ever received?

I prefer the ECU/WVU/UNC type games more than SMU/Akron. Beating an FBS team is awesome so part of me likes the lower tier FBS schools but losing to Akron is also a tough pill to swallow. Go big or go home.

WVU will pay JMU $550,000 to play in Morgantown. Other payouts are as followed ECU (’17 - $300,000) & NCSt (’18 - $425,000).

Nice! Is the WV payday the biggest one JMU has received? Seems it might be.

Yeah, think so. From what's been posted on here and from what I have been able to look up:

2016 @ UNC 410k
2015 @ SMU: 425k + some travel expenses
2014 @ MD 325k
2013 @ Akron 300k
2012 vs WVU @ Fed Ex ???
2011 vs UNC 350k
2010 @ VT 450k
http://tricitiessports.com/james-madison...457-80.htm
Using the bls.gov inflation calculator, in 2016 dollars that's about 497k. In 2019 dollars, assuming around 2% inflation a year, that might be around 530k.
2009 @ MD 300k??
2008 @ Duke crap
2007 @ UNC 350k

I think App got 600k from LSU in 2008. Biggest I've ever seen YSU @ Ohio State in 2007 got 650k. Thats over 750k in 2016 $$. Maybe Tressel had something to do with that..

I won't get excited until I see a 2nd round (round of 16) playoff win.

I don't think these games are all that difficult to get done, it's just a matter of negotiating how much money we get. $550k is a pretty good get. I realize ECU isn't WVU but $300k seems a little light.

RE: $550,000 Pay Day - Madison 91 Forever - 09-09-2016 03:21 PM

That's awesome. Hat's off to JMU for a solid FBS schedule. Would love to see us play the Wahoos (again) at some point, but I'm very happy with what we've slated for the next few years.

Now, if we could schedule a few non-cupcake out-of-conference FCS teams, as well ...

RE: $550,000 Pay Day - JMad03 - 09-09-2016 03:35 PM

For all the crap they get with scheduling, they should get some props when they make good things happen. All of these are good things, so good job.

RE: $550,000 Pay Day - JMUTrippster - 09-09-2016 03:43 PM

These are great, regional FBS games that I expect will get a good draw of JMU folks as well. Hope I can make it to all three!

"Life as a College Football Cupcake: Why Smaller Teams Take Their Lumps

.....Since Grass arrived in 2014, Jacksonville State is 24-4. Two of those losses have come at the hands of FBS schools, Auburn in 2015 and Michigan State in 2014....

...."Some of these mid-major teams go play a Power Five and they're getting more than a million dollars," Grass said. "We're not getting that kind of check, even though you wish you were. But we're getting anywhere from $400,000 to $600,000, and it goes a long way, budget-wise....."

JMU should be like JSU- 400-600k. 550k from WVU in 2019 is great, 425k from NC State in 2018 is decent, but getting only 300k from ECU next year is crap. Heck, Akron paid 300k back in 2012 (will be closer to 315k in 2017 $$) and Akron only average 9k+ fans the season before (2012)..

RE: $550,000 Pay Day - RamDawg - 09-12-2016 11:27 AM

All three of these would make some great TV games to kick off the seasons.

RE: $550,000 Pay Day - JMU - 09-20-2016 08:26 PM

Alabama just entered an agreement to pay Southern Mississippi $1.85 million for an OOC game in 2019. Damn! That is the largest payday I have ever heard.

For that kind of money, JMU should play alabama twice in season.

Holy cow... that's an insane amount...I wonder what Alabama's normal take in a game is and whether that is even a dent!
