Which school do you think was thrown in the B12 sweepstakes without their knowledge? - Stay Cool - 08-30-2016 07:46 PM

We've all read the reports that one school in this process doesn't even know how their name was submitted for B12 expansion consideration. Which school do you believe it was, and why? Was it because the B12 picked a favorite out? Or as some speculated, that the B12 was attempting to have a representative from each G5 conference in order to draw eyeballs from all corners of the country?

Well that's just silly. I guess it's easier to eliminate teams we KNOW approached the B12 about admission...

Cincinnati
Houston
BYU
Memphis

Those are the only schools we can confirm approached the B12 TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE

Sometimes when asking a question about the chicken or the egg the answer is simply the chicken.

Nobody even thought they had a prayer until the Big 12 announced they would be looking. I suppose you could say that B.Y.U. and Cincinnati had investment from past opportunities, but their hopes too were rejuvenated by the announcement.

Fair enough, but that still begs the question... which school got tossed into the mix without approaching the B12?

We're really not this naive, right?

No one got tossed into the mix randomly. Whichever school(s) told reporters that they didn't apply to the Big 12 was lying about or denying what they did. That's actually what most schools used to do when asked about conference realignment. It's just that this particular Big 12 process is so open that a lot of schools are on the record about applying compared to the past.

Whether they actually did or not is ALMOST irrelevant. If no school ACTUALLY was tossed into the mix, which school CLAIMED to have just been tossed in? Still a valid question

Or maybe McMurphy's information was wrong and it was 19, not 20?

If memory serves correctly, these leaks were coming out back when it was 17 or so schools, possibly even when there was 14 and some mystery schools.

I do think its pretty safe to say all 10 AAC (who have all been public) and Arkansas St. and NIU asked to be put in and are being discussed. Rice, UNM, BYU and CSU have been public about it. So that leaves Air Force, UNLV, SDSU and Boise who might not actually be in the mix.

ECU approached them over a year ago... probably couldn't do anything official till they opened up officially about doing something though.

FWIW, I think this whole thing has been the biggest charade of circumstances and PR since the realignment/expansion machine started with ACC/BE raids in the early 2000s.

I would suggest Air Force and if there is any chance the person is telling the truth, DEFINITELY Air Force

Yeah, then who laid the egg (besides the Big XII, of course)?
