Used to watch his panel show and then Luis Ruykeyser on PBS back in the early 80's before cable.
The two were cable before cable.
Hadn't watched in decades but recently and briefly caught a taping in the last couple weeks and he was almost incoherent. Guests were helping finishing sentences and thoughts. When they didn't poor John literally mumbled. Not having seen him in awhile he looked near death. Little did I know.

I only remember McLaughlin from those good SNL sketches they did on him.
