How many football scholarships do we have to offer? - DallasTiger - 07-28-2016 09:45 AM

This year is kind of new for me in football recruiting...we have a lot of early committments. So a few questions
1. How many football scholarships do we have available?
2. What happens when we have enough committments to use all our scholarships and we continue to get committments from better players? Do we go back to some committed players and say that we cannot accept their committment because a better player committed?

Just curious.

that is low down underhanded way to do business ... HOPEFULLY we can don that this year and in following years!

I agree. It's done, but it's dirty.
In fact we've picked up a couple of players that were done that way, IIRC

Bingo!!! That's the way most P5 schools operate take commitments and swing for the fences on 4 and 5 *'.s If a 4 or 5 is snagged then you don't honor an existing commitment.

Don't forget that just because somebody commits doesn't mean they have been told they are on the "A" list. Players are often told scholarships may be available but they also maybe be in the walk-on or grey shirt status depending on the A list colleges develop.

But after saying that we are in uncharted territory compared to most years. Two good years, more visibility on a national scale, better TV exposure, MN and staff highly successful efforts and B12 rumors have made a difference.

This is a very valid question which could come into play big time if we get the invite next month.

Do we become like OM and pull offers to commits already on board if better players want to jump aboard the Tiger Train?

Blade swings both ways...We will likely lose a few kids who have breakout years

Realize some P5 schools (ut) have oversigned players and refuse to offer actual LOIs.

At this stage all of our recruits are non-binding verbal commits. That pretty much frees both sides for a little bit of wiggle room.
