Texas Tech President supports Houston to the Big 12 - billybobby777 - 07-23-2016 01:40 PM

Looks like the dominoes are falling the right way for the Coogs. First UT, and now Tech. I'm not even counting the support from the big 12 coaches. I bet they get picked up in the next week...who does AAC replace them with? I hope Rice.

Cheers!

Houston looks like a lock, and we already felt UC was a lock.

So now it's down to 13 and 14. Gut says BYU football and UConn

Yeah:
Houston is a lock
Cincy is a lock
BYU: looking very close
UCONN or Memphis best bets for #4
My wildcard consideration is Navy. I don't know if Navy is interested in the Big 12, but they are a good football program, borders WV and loves playing games in Texas. Navy would be very logical IMHO. This sucks for ECU.

Cheers!

Rice takes over for the Coogs in the Houston market. I know, I know Rice doesn't carry the Houston market. Neither did the Coogs. At least the AAC is still in Houston and Rice is a phenomenal school with history. It's a better add than Marshall, Charlotte, WKU and others being tossed around.

cheers!

I'll give you that Rice gets you back into Houston, but be prepared for Tulane 2.0 with less competitiveness outside of baseball

Great academics (AAU) great history, great location. Ability to get good P5 home games in football with their long history/connections to the cartel and their 70,000 seat stadium. And yes..great baseball program.
Cheers!

Their 70k stadium that they frequently have 5k or less in... and they don't have the excuse NIU does of frigidly cold Tuesday night games in November dampening our attendance

You haven't even gotten Tulane up and running and you think Rice is going to help? AAU wont mean **** next time to negotiate a TV contract.

If UConn os left behind you better do whatever you can to help them or your BBall becomes nonexistent.

Umass, NIU and Ohio. Two good FB programs and a good bball one.

East UConn, Temple, UMass, ECU, USF, UCF

West SMU, Tulsa, NIU, Ohio, Tulane, Navy

I'd prefer swapping Ohio with Toledo or Buffalo (for football or basketball, respectively) but i could learn to deal with Ohio. Have been since we've been marooned in the MAC together...

Less competitiveness outside of baseball? I read that as a comparison between Tulane and Rice (i.e. Rice is less competitive than Tulane, outside of baseball), and that doesn't have merit.

But upon further review, if the statement was Rice has less competitiveness than UH. I think you need a few more qualifiers than just baseball. (Giving full credit to UH Football and Basketball when compared to Rice.) But please let the AAC know who is better than UH, and available to replace UH with.

Ohio is the best option out of those 3 in my humble opinion. I don't think CUSA is the way to go. The AAC has already kicked that keg.

I want Houston in the Big 12, along with Cincy and Memphis. But I don't think UH is a lock, by any means. I think the opposition is greater than a lot of folks realize.

Well and unfortunately for a lot of UH fans, open support like that from a conference exploring realignment has not worked well in the past

More Big XII presidents openly praising them than anyone else.

Could be political cover. Why didn't they do it before the TX gov came out?

And probably more quietly opposing them, too. The ISU prez already said publicly that they don't need any more "southern" schools, but rather "northern" ones, implying no more Texas schools. Another B12 prez said the Big 12 is saturated with Texas schools (maybe the same guy, not sure).

If I were a Houston fan, I would be excited for the show of support (it certainly helped), but concerned about the backlash.

And as Bullet said, who really knows? Votes can be changed.

Yeah but ISU isn't stupid. 1 Texas school and 3 non-Texas schools is better than nothing and if Texas doesn't get whats it wants then nothing is what they will give ISU.
