Sorry to hear you have such low expectations about this coming year. I must say I am not a fan of JJ's style of play BUT I am excited and expecting a pretty darn good year coming up. After talking to all the coaches last week we are going to play Brandon and Porter together. The starting line up is going to be Caver at point with BJ at either 2 or 3 and Brandon and Porter. They are still uncertain who the other starter will be. They are also planning on possibly playing a 4 guard with one big rotation. This would be the two freshmen guards with Cavers backup( transfer from last year) and either Green or Haynes( one will start and one will play on this team) along with Kah. Needless to say this second group will play a lot of zone defense. That's right ZONE defense. The reason for this is this group is not ready to play defense but can shoot the ball well. It sounded like a change from what has been a boring product. I am actually excited about this upcoming season. Should be a lot of fun and who knows. If it works we could be good enough to go dancing. I fully expect the naysayers to chime in with the usual no way this club can make the NCAA playoffs but this is by far the best group of players we have had in JJs time here at ODU.

Sounds interesting, but I have learned not to put much stock in anything the coaching staff says they are going to do this time of year. We always here something is going to be different, then when the rubber meats the road JJ does what he has always been comfortable doing.

Let me ask you this, how many players on this years team do you think would start for VCU?

Are you serious?

BJ would start this year.
Ahmad would start this year.
Brandan would start this year.
Porter would start this year.

Do you know what kind of team they are going to have for the 2017-2018 season?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - T-Mac - 09-05-2017 09:42 AM

Yeah, that's a silly question. They'd switch rosters with us in a heartbeat...wouldn't hesitate one bit...they'd pay us a LOT of money to do it, too!

That is great to hear. Can't see Ahmad leaving the floor very often. Are you saying Pinckney will be the point guard in that rotation? I would love to see Ahmad with that unit. Get him some guys on the wing that can hit the open shots and we could see some real success from that unit.

Pinckney will back up Caver (if/when Caver leaves the floor). There's a debate weather Green can handle the point. If that turns out to be the case, then Caver could potentially play off-ball. Unless there's massive foul trouble, I can't see Caver/Pinckney both being out there at the same time.

Pinckney will be the point guard with that second unit. I don't know where the rumor started that Green will play point. Last year at the beginning of practices the coaches tried to use Green at the point. It didn't work. There are no plans to use Green at the point. Green can shot. Right now Green is in the running to start at either the 2 or 3 spot. Also I see no reason why Caver wouldn't play with both units.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - Gilesfan - 09-05-2017 04:40 PM

I would guess Pinckney gets a handful of mins. like Fields did. Caver is too valuable to take out.

Nice to read additional good thoughts on Green, have heard them myself. Guessing him and BJ are the wings.

2018 6-9, 190...

He was in the ODU bookstore with his dad, buying some ODU gear. Tall dude. Coach Richardson was very high on him. He stated he was St. Louis.
Does him buying ODU gear a good sign????

You sound like a VCU fan boy, especially with this statement. Funny you just joined our forums too...

They get 5 official visits. Of course we are getting one. Don't hold your breadth. His top 2 right now are VCU and WSU.

So, ODU is paying for his visit, despite knowing they are out of the running?

Just because he gets 5 doesn't mean he has to take 5.

Yep...maybe they can turn things around. I hope they can. That would be an awesome recruiting effort. I hope the pitch includes selling an All-American and NBA player for a coach that can develop him further.

If you read these boards too much you'll come to the conclusion that JJ caused all these hurricanes.
