As I read the article, it seems to indicate that Dickens will in fact be playing this year.

First --
"He joins a recruiting class that includes 7-1 grad transfer Elbert Robinson from LSU, and incoming freshmen 6-8 Joe Reece, 6-8 Kalu Ezikpe and 6-3 Jason Wade."

and second --
"...Dickens will join a Monarch squad that returns two starters (Ahmad Caver and B.J. Stith) from a team that went 25-7 in 2017-18."

Bold face added for emphasis in both quotes -- taken together, they sure seem to be saying that he will be on the court this year.

I'm reading it and not getting that impression at all. It seems very factual, with no nuance whatsoever.

Yup, I agree with you on the contents of the article. He will join the squad and be on the team but we will have to wait and see if the NCAA gives their approval for him to PLAY this season. I have no actual insight and the folks who claim to have knowledge seem pretty divided on whether or not he will see the floor this year. Fingers crossed.

According to the article on Dickens, Wade has shrunk. He'd been referred to as 6-5 when being recruited.

I messaged ODAF and they indicated it’s uncertain if he will be able to play next year. But they said the coaching staff are working on it.

Yep, and I did the same with Ed Miller and he gave me the same answer. My bad.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully, this one will go our way! Would be quite a roster next year. And, regardless, we look solid for years to come. Awesome recruiting by the coaching staff.

WHich is the size of Carver (listed) and Ezikpe. Reece is taller, but skinny. How many CUSA teams have an actual legitimate backup center?

Lol before we signed either of these guys you were saying how unimportant the center position is in college basketball and how important positionless basketball is in 2018.

Talk about your moving goalposts lol.

My aspirations for ODU aren't limited to merely being competitive in CUSA, losing out in the tournament, then going home till next season. In order to do better than that and not have all your hopes tied up in winning the conference tournament, ODU will have to do well against teams not in CUSA to build a resume. It isn't all about who is in CUSA and hoping ODU has enough size to match up in Jeff's man-to-man.

Most of the guys you listed are going to be true freshmen next season and on top of that, forward is their natural position. Besides that even Carver is only 6'-7" and a natural forward at that.

Sorry you don't see the importance of the two new centers Jeff just brought in. Apparently Jeff as well as several posters on this board see it.

Let me ask you a straight up question. Hypothetically, assume Dickens sits out this season and Robinson is lost for the year after the 2nd game of the season to injury. Without beating around the bush and doing some double talk .....

* Give us your prediction on what ODU's conference record would end up being, and where ODU would finish in CUSA - i.e. 1st, 2nd, etc.

* Tell us what post season tournament you think ODU would end up playing in.

Without Robinson and Dickens top 3, hopefully an NIT. With Robinson conference final, possibility of NCAA. With R and D NCAA.
Wade is going to be really good.
Godwin major upswing look for multiple 20+ games. I see next year like year 2 with JJ but without the late season stumbles with very good senior leadership

I will put any amount of money you want on us not making the NCAA tourney next year even if BOTH players are totally healthy.

This is absurd. We didn’t even make the NIT last year with porter and Stith and we’re replacing them with total question marks and now we are an NCAA team? Laughable.

Old Dominion University is the latest to offer 2019, 3-star, 6'1", PG, Noah Kamba, Dexter MA. Currently holds about a dozen offers, mostly from schools in the NE. This is a position we have a need, currently have Wade (FR), Kithcart (Soph) and Brill a soph walk-on.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - north beach monarch - 07-07-2018 09:08 AM

PG we should be in good shape with Kithcart for 2 yrs after Caver

Thank god for the the ignore button. Easy to see why He flunked out of ODU twice

Wade is not a PG. He is a combo guard at best.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - DaBigBlue - 07-07-2018 11:10 PM

I agree that Jason should be more of a SG, and I have high hopes for him. I think with his defense and BB IQ there a chance we'll see him having to play PG. That's why I think we have a need. How do you practice 5 on 5 without two PGs. If isn't Jason who?

This year Caver and Kithcarth. Green can help so in practice. Brill I guess can help. I agree we need another true play making PG. I was just saying you can't count on Wade at all at PG. He is rugged 2 and more towards the 3 than the 1.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - mac - 07-08-2018 12:37 PM

I like rugged! Take Ben Finley for example. He was more towards a football player then a 3 but he sure did help us a lot. Yeah, I like rugged. Wade should really help us, whatever he is.
