2016 SBC Champion prediction - VandalBasher - 05-22-2016 09:03 PM

It isn't a far stretch to say Appy State. I thought it was a bold prediction to call Michigan and Stanford as champs of the B1G and PAC12, respectively.

We never get picked, and I like that.

There is no doubt stAte is always a frontrunner in this conference. I can't wait for the day you guys play the pigs.

I'm picking you guys. Offense too strong. Defense just right.

RE: 2016 SBC Champion prediction - JTApps1 - 05-23-2016 09:34 AM

I'm not sold on us just yet as we have to replace two OL, and have a mostly unproven WR corps. We are also a little thin on both lines so an injury on either front could make a huge impact. Still, we do have a favorable conference schedule with the games at GS and Troy being the only two I'm concerned about. ULL could be tough if they bounce back this year, but they're hard to figure out right now.

Concur with your assessment of the Cajuns. Most of us are unsure of what to expect this fall. Unlike a year or two ago; not really anyone picking us to compete for the top spot this year. I'd love to be surprised though!

Barring injury, I think we stand a very good chance. We host GaSo and skip App. We have added about 100 blueshirts it seems and the list of new impact transfers is the largest I have ever seen. Throw in the guys returning from injury and the depth we established on the DL last year and this could be a breakout year for the Red Wolves.

I expect stAte to be tough again this year and if your quarterback catches fire early you could be looking at a special year. After all you guys have the most talent in the league.

You guys have to stop associating that with us!

I think it's way too late for that.....

RE: 2016 SBC Champion prediction - JCGSU - 05-23-2016 03:46 PM

I think it will be a four team race App, GS and ArkSt plus a wild card like GSU or Troy that finally puts it all together and not so up and down game to game.

RE: 2016 SBC Champion prediction - moehler - 05-23-2016 08:32 PM

not sure what to think about GSU, just not ready to buy in yet that they have turned the corner, right now I have more confidence that Troy is more dangerous to the "big three" than GSU.

Troy must be the thorn in your side like Ga State has turned out for us.

What I've seen of Troy doesn't worry me.

They didn't have much problem with Troy in 2014.

I agree with him. Troy has recruited well recently and they have a history of success. This may not be their year but they may be a safer bet than State.

I'm very slightly surprised how much Troy is being overlooked in 2016.

I know Troy is still rebuilding under Neal Brown, but there are 7 starters returning on both sides of the ball, not including a running back that missed most of last year that is about to break Troy's all-time TD record for a RB, plus a CB transfer from Auburn (who actually saw playing time there) that is eligible and has been praised all spring. Add in that during the last 6 games of 2015, Troy averaged 36 points per game and only allowed 25 points per game, and took App State to OT and shellacked the Cajuns in the season finale... I'm thinking Troy is going to surprise some of you with some losses. 03-shhhh

RE: 2016 SBC Champion prediction - eaglewraith - 05-24-2016 07:08 AM

I've seen 1 offensive TD by Troy in trash time and 2 FG's. The fumble they scored on last year was a fluke so that's not quite sustainable.

I'm not overlooking Troy, I'm just not worried by them. After all, they were the best defense in the conference when we rang up 45 on them last year.

If we're only going to consider how we do against a team then Georgia State ought to be the favorites for the conference and in the Access Bowl conversation.

RE: 2016 SBC Champion prediction - GaSouthern - 05-24-2016 08:45 AM

App got my vote last year and they get it again this year. Hopefully we will be in the running in about 2 years but I just can't see it happening this year or next for GS.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
