ODU move to the AAC? - ETSUDB8-79 - 05-22-2016 12:18 PM

Latest, well researched info by Harry M. on the possibility of ODU moving to the AAC. Pretty sure there are also some strong hints to make sure ODU moves on the Stadium in June. Read it and see what you think.

I just posted this on the CUSA forum and was going to repost it here, but you beat me to it. He certainly has perked my interest in the discussion, especially with his comments on the consensus of the CUSA media. Very interesting.

It'd be interesting to see what happens.
Texas and Oklahoma might leave the Big12. (I think they both got permission to do so back when A&M left). I can see Texas going for sure if they don't get their way. Oklahoma probably wouldn't be too far behind.

This would more than likely result in 2 more schools being back filled from the AAC as I highly doubt anyone would leave the B1G, SEC etc... for the BIG12.

So if we don't move up as they would like to grab somebody from the MAC or something, next time around might be possible.
This wave could be JMU's chance to jump up as well and get that rivalry going again.

I've read so many of these articles about this stuff though, I could of swore that this has been discussed here already. Apparently not though.

I guess we'll see.

RE: ODU move to the AAC? - monarx - 05-22-2016 02:18 PM

I would absolutely love a move to the AAC. As the article points out, if we aren't selected to move, we are left in an even worse situation. This conference without UNCC and Marshall would be worse than the CAA from a fan enjoyment and marketing perspective. And those are the two most important aspects after winning. Losing So. Miss would hurt the competitiveness and perception of the league, but would have a less direct impact on ODU specifically. I'd hate to lose out to UMass, but that seems to be a highly possible scenario as well. I hope these articles are our way of lobbying, since as the article states, we aren't doing so directly like So. Miss and UMass are.

Well, more eggs to put in this summers basket. Should be an interesting few months in regards to this and our future football stadium. 04-cheers

High stakes; don't know when or if another chance will come along. If the Big XII does indeed expand, I hope we play our cards right.

We know that ODU's BOV will be presented with Populous Architect's proposal on June 9th. I am excited that Ronald Ripley, the BOV's rector, said that he hopes the BOV finalizes stadium plans that day.

Wow, it just sunk in that the stadium decision has been dragging on for 4 years now. I'm still holding out for 30,000 seats and an AAC invite.

Who knows but maybe thisis why the stadium project has been dragging?

This would not explain four years to do a report. They will use this as an excuse though.

I'd give them the last 6 months to count to an AAC invite, as the report was supposed to come out November at first if I remember correctly, and then pushed to late winter.. and now June.

And I'll give them a year for trying to figure out the schools master plan.

Leaving 2 years of WTF

Thats what Ive been saying all along. Stadium makes no sense without the AAC... and I guarantee we are talking under non-disclosure.

The report has not been 4 years. It was due in January, I believe. This could well explain the 5 month delay.

The landscape is changing. 4 years ago, TH was our QB, there was a huge waiting list for season tickets and the general public could not get into a game. This is no longer the case... but the AAC would get us back to where we were.

We would get a home game against ECU and Navy every other year that would be sure to demand 30k tickets and we might get a top 25 team from time to time and this would demand more capacity, but if we wind up there, it would be because their best team(s) are going to the Big 12. That conference is also pretty far flung and we'd have several low demand games as well. It would certainly boost football and there would be more rivalry, but it would be huge for basketball.

It would take us where we thought we were going when we joined CUSA. Before half the conference left before we got there.

Not that I wouldn't be thrilled with AAC but we would not have a home game with navy every other year. Per navy's request they are in the west division of AAC. The divisions could obviously be switched but right now Navy is West and ECU is east.

I'd love to move, but in all fairness, CUSA has had many top 25 teams, including WKY just last season and Marshall the year before.
