OT - Hofheinz family suing UH over naming rights to Hofheinz Pavilion - Fort Bend Owl - 05-06-2016 06:09 AM

As part of its $60 million renovation of Hofheinz Pavilion, UH is trying to rename the basketball facility. And the Hofheinz family is not happy. I'm surprised they gave $1.5 million 47 years ago to ensure the naming rights of the original arena.

While I don't blame the family for being upset, I'm not sure if Rice folks can sympathize with them either. There does seem to be an unspoken element to these facilities that the naming rights won't last forever. After all, it's now Tudor Fieldhouse instead of Autry Court, and Reckling Park instead of Cameron Field.

Well, it's still Cameron Field (located within Reckling Park) and it wouldn't surprise me if it were still Autrey Court on which we play inside the Tudor Fieldhouse.

That was my thought too. UH should have been able to finesse this.

I'm upset at UH for selling new naming rights to the building. Just leave it alone.

It is Autry Court I believe.

If someone can track down the Answer and Cross-claim filed by the Hofheinz Trusts, it is really interesting and one of the best documents I've ever read.

Khator just needs to get Tillman to write a check for say $2.5M to make this problem go away.

Or increase student fees ( taxes ) once again. 03-idea

That will likely happen anyway.

I'm shocked that administration hasn't been run out of town yet. I guess a winning football team really does cure all.

when they get smoked by OU in September, their recurring delusions of grandeur (back to national relevance, H Town takeover, all the crap) will be deflated once again.

After reading that I think Tillman will have to write an even bigger check.

I wonder if UH talked to John Moores when they renamed Cougar Field to DARRYL & LORI SCHROEDER PARK.

Fascinating reading, that.

I have to think that page 27 contains the only instance in the history of the written word of a prayer containing the phrase "equitable recission". Dear Lord.

Assuming they can get past this suit, I would thoroughly enjoy it if UH were able to keep with the naming scheme used for their football stadium... is there perhaps a "Bucket Rice" company out there with $20m lying around?

The part about shifting academic funds to athletics had us wondering if Khator as Chancellor had shifted academic funds from other UH campuses to the athletic program.

Can anyone point me to a document that lists Rice's athletic department operating cost subsidy ?

I've seen it in the owl club yearly summary. Not sure if that's online.
