Cord-cutters rejoice! - BKTopper - 05-02-2016 11:37 AM

It looks like streaming ESPN will be available through Hulu very soon. How this affects ESPN 3, etc. remains to be seen, but it's a start...

So...basically Sling.

Sling's streaming platform sucks though, so I bet Hulu does it better. If it is the same price, they'll going to kill Sling. Sling is great, but it buffers too much and the "HD" they offer doesn't look nearly as good as the HD on HBO Now, Hulu, or Netflix.

Oh....... Hulu.......

I stopped caring about that service when they decided to put ads on videos even if you paid the subscription. I personally have had no issues with Sling.

Although, I am thinking about getting Vue if they ever make a Roku app.

Now you can pay a little extra and get HULU without ads...

PlayStation Vue streams ESPN channels and you have access to ESPN 3

Glad to hear they changed that policy, always thought it was dumb.

I have an antenna and Roku 3, along with subscriptions to Netflix and Sling. The Directv salesman at Costco just says hi to me and doesn't pitch me anymore after telling him my setup.
PSA: if you need a salesman with a memory like a steel trap, visit the Hoover, AL Costco and speak to the really tall Directv rep with the beard.

Psst Watch ESPN. I use my Sling login. Works beautifully.

Oh I know, but a lot of people don't.

My friend was trying to stream NBA games through Sling this weekend and it was awful. Kept buffering and the quality was ****. I told him to use his Sling credentials on WatchESPN and he had no idea he could do that.

I watch more than just ESPN though (actually, I NEVER watch ESPN unless my team is playing on it), so I still have to endure the shittiness of Sling if I want to watch TV. It is a nice first go at a streaming TV package, but their platform is not very good.

RE: Cord-cutters rejoice! - panama - 05-02-2016 05:01 PM

I have Netflix, Hulu and Sling plus OTA supplemented by dozens of other Roku channels . I have too much content. Anyway, where i DO think this might be headed is what happens if Hulu, Netflix or Dish (parent of SlingTV) decide in a few years to make a bid for a league's TV rights? Now THAT makes things interesting.

What device was he using to stream Sling? I use a Roku 3 and it's usually fine for me. Albeit I don't watch Sling for much more than sports and a few other channels.

after internet, hulu, netflix, and sling you're basicslly paying cable prices unless you're trading accounts with people.

I was paying $180 a month to Directv. I pay $40 a month. Internet is irrelevant because I had high speed internet even with Directv.

SlingTV is about $20/mo. Although the it can go higher. The new Hulu TV service is rumored to be around the $40 mark. They will likely offer more channels than SlingTV at that price spot.

Sounds like "cutting the cord " is costing about the same as cable for about the same level of service. Really less channels. With one difference....

you watch that Tuesday 7pm show....on Wednesday

You chose to pay that much ...you didn't have to. So you are comparing the top package at Directv with all the moveie channels and all the sports add-ons to a basic streaming service. That's makes a lot of sense.

RE: Cord-cutters rejoice! - FIU4Ever - 05-02-2016 10:31 PM

What all of this does is make you realize how much crap you were paying for that you never watched.
