NFL Draft - WRCisforgotten79 - 04-29-2016 10:32 PM

There were 98 selections in the first 3 rounds of the NFL Draft, and 84 were players from teams in P5 conferences. 10 were from G5, and 4 from FCS teams.

Here's a link to the NFL.com draft tracker for C-USA selections and prospects. (None from Rice, BTW.)

(For comparison, Harvard has three prospects.)

The TE from WKU who just got arrested for beating the crap out of a Muslim guy at a Bowling Green bar just got drafted by the Rams.

RE: NFL Draft - WRCisforgotten79 - 04-30-2016 12:50 PM

Apropos of Phillip Gaines, the Chiefs already have taken two cornerbacks: KeiVarae Russell (Notre Dame) in the 2nd round and Eric Murray (Minnesota) in the 4th.

RE: NFL Draft - Barney - 04-30-2016 03:00 PM

Looks to me then that Philip sold the Chiefs on the benefits of getting relatively smarter cornerbacks?

RE: NFL Draft - ExcitedOwl18 - 04-30-2016 03:08 PM

Chiefs select another CB, DJ White from GT.

and of the 84 P5 picks, 10 were from one school--Ohio State. One of the four FCS kids played 2 years at Ohio State before being kicked out.

Kudos to Mark D'Antonio for beating Ohio State last year, shuttling backup QBs. He had talent too--4 kids picked as I write this compared to 12 for Ohio State. Interesting both Sparty and OSU had QB's picked today, and neither played in the big game between them last fall.

Urban Meyer sure has an eye for talent. Maybe not ethical talent, but talent nonetheless.

Rules don't even matter anymore. The NCAA doesn't enforce anything so if you are a big moneymaker school you might as well cheat.

Meyer is the epitome of class. He had "heart issues" and retired from UF only to take the OSU job a year later.

Well we were shown on NFL Network...on a highlight for a Western Kentucky cornerback...picking off a pass from us.

And also the TE from the same team scoring on us...that is some unconventional marking though!

For those who made the trip to the Liberty Bowl I doubt anyone would have predicted the decline of Dak Prescott in terms of NFL interest. At the time he looked like a clone for Ben Roethlisberger.

RE: NFL Draft - ExcitedOwl18 - 04-30-2016 06:10 PM

Now former Owl Cole Hunt's brother was drafted in the 6th round by the Seahawks.

I've yet to see one Rice player sign on as an UDFA, which is slightly scary/funny when you look at some of the schools that have had guys sign.

RE: NFL Draft - elw4796 - 04-30-2016 08:45 PM

Dennis Parks goes to Green Bay.

Or the fact that there was the first player drafted who has never played football in North America before. German guy who plays wide receiver for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League. Of course, he happened to run a 4.43 40 yard dash in a tryout in Florida, so that helps.

Schools with the same number or more picks or UDFA than us: Liberty, West Liberty, Ferris State, Angelo State, Gannon, Valdosta State, UTEP's basketball team, WKU's basketball team, Baylor's basketball team, Cal State Sacramento, Ohio Dominican, Shepherd, Southwest Baptist, and others. 02-13-banana

RE: NFL Draft - MemOwl - 04-30-2016 10:13 PM

OK, just to pick the scab.

Rice went 4-8 in 2011 with 5 NFL players on its roster--McDonald, Willson, Gaines, Callahan, and Boswell--plus Sam McGuffie.

EDIT--and Christian Covington
