Two team dogfight as 6 teams went over par by double digits. Kent makes up six strokes on UT and leads by one going into the final holes.

Day two is in the books:

Flashes and the EMU Swim & Dive team are tied for the most consecutive MAC championships at 17. Holding on tomorrow would give KSU ladies golf the all-time MAC record.
This is a pretty close tourney! UT is putting up a great fight.

Can you tell me why it played 71 yards shorter on Day 1?

(Multiple tee boxes on each hole allow for different yardages. This course in particular is set up to be played in different ways. They have two additional scorecards that blend distances from the traditional women's-senior's-men's-championship tees scorecard.)

How much more than you wanted to know is that?

Very helpful. Seems odd to me- I play very little but any tournament I've seen seemed to play the same tees every round. Doesn't sound like a huge diff but I'm sure it could be. Thanks.

RE: MAC Spring Championships start today - axeme - 04-24-2016 11:38 AM

Most tournaments change the teeing areas every round. It changes the distances, but of course, it's not reflected on the scorecard. Par 3's in particular might see +/- 20 yds. on different days. You can't rely on the official scorecard distances almost ever. The pros pace off each hole and have their own yardage books and I'm sure the top collegiate amateurs do, too, at the big tourneys. GPS devices and apps and laser range finders are your friend. And are legal as long as they don't measure slope.

Quote:No. 13 Kent State women's golf will continue its season at Texas A&M as the four seed in the 2016 NCAA Regional, as announced by the NCAA live on the Golf Channel Monday night.

The Golden Flashes are one of 18 teams teeing off at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, May 5-7. The low six teams and low three individuals from each of the four regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, May 20-25.

Kent State received an automatic bid to regionals after capturing its 18th-straight Mid-American Conference Championship this past weekend, setting a new MAC record for consecutive titles for any sport. This marks the 16th-straight regional bid for the Golden Flashes. The team has advanced to nationals four times.

Last season, Kent State finished in 9th place at the Notre Dame Regional after shooting 32-over, 896 total score. The team is currently on pace to shatter the program average score, as they currently have a 290.64 round average and 3.93 versus par in 28 rounds in 2015-16. The record has been broke the past two seasons, with a 296.91 average score, 10.73 versus par in 2014-15. The Golden Flashes have already set new single season program records in wins, par or better rounds and birdies.

Taylor Kim and Wad Phaewchimplee are also en route to claiming the best two individual scoring averages in single season program history. Phaewchimplee set a new mark last season at 73.58. She is currently at 73.11 while Kim is averaging 72.61. Phaewchimplee remains the Kent State career scoring average leader while Kim has moved up to second all-time.

Round two in the books. NIU with the best second round. Still probably a two team race at the top.

Wow, still better than we usually do.

RE: MAC Spring Championships start today - Ken Barna - 04-29-2016 11:23 AM

Dear axeme,
Kent has just tied the record of Eastern's Men's Swimming team, who had set the record, that Kent's Golf team has accomplished this year.

RE: MAC Spring Championships start today - axeme - 04-29-2016 03:30 PM

Third round is finished. Last round is Saturday. Not much movement up or down today, but a widening of the gap at the top. A 1-over par round by the Flashes has pretty much ended any suspense. NIU has closed to a stroke out of second place behind EMU.

The individual championship is a lot more up for grabs tomorrow.
