Interesting fact about our color scheme - batman - 04-18-2016 10:58 AM

Did you know the blue and gray combination was meant to represent the unification of the country after the Civil War?

I never knew that. Very interesting indeed. The CA had a bring post about it this morning

Paging Gray Avenger...

Yes, that is an interesting piece of info regarding our university. It's listed on the school website in a couple of areas. I think it would be worth highlighting more, though.

But is the gray we use today the official confederate gray PMS color?

Georgetown and us chose those colors for that reason.

U of M was founded around the 50th anniversary of the Civil War and the healing was still going on.

I think this tidbit has been in the media guides for decades. For a long time I thought we were the only school with this interesting fact. However, Georgetown selected the same colors for the same reason long before we did.

It is ironic that the guy that in a one note about the colors would like a redo on the Civil War

Yes it is but some have found it offensive which is why we went charcoal gray and black.

Right - the colors we wore during the Dockery years were closest to our "official" colors.

Is it the PC world or no one relates?

Gray isn't really the representation of the confederacy or the rebellion like other symbols.

Why isn't gray offensive for Georgetown, Ohio State, UConn, Duke, Rice, Nevada, Utah State and numerous others (including all the schools such as Tennessee who wear gray without even being a school color)? Political correctness makes me want to vomit.

^^^ Yeah, I don't see how discussing the colors would be "un-PC".

Nothing about this is PC.

Jesus christ.
