Here's my preview of the weekend series from the Rice perspective. Is my analysis accurate and, if not, where are the holes? Thanks.

Blazers are currently 0-8 vs Top 50 teams.

We should probably be significantly better than we are in year 39 with Brian Shoop

It really is an interesting question: Can you win at UAB? With baseball, non-lottery states have so many disadvantages, due to the partial scholarship issue. Our baseball club has been historically horrible since I was in school, and the only tourney appearance since 1991 was 2012...when we won the CUSA tournament despite a 9-15 league record.

As I understand it, lottery based scholarships (like the HOPE scholarships in Georgia) are counted in basketball and football as part of the NCAA limit for that sport. In baseball, they are not counted against the school's limit so they have a distinct advantage if the players they sign are from that school's home state. Those schools can hold their limited athletic scholarships for out of state players while using HOPE type schollys for instate players who qualify.

This could explain why all Alabama public universities have trouble winning regularly in baseball. We are playing in a game with a "stacked deck" in favor of lottery state public schools.

Exactly. This is why schools in Georgia and Louisiana can recruit a lot of top out of state prospects.

I had Fried Rice today and had a bite of Frawg Leg the other day.

I series win would be huge for this team. Yesterday was their first road win of the season. They've been in so many games late in conference play.
