Science Fiction & Fantasy Poll - TigerBill - 04-07-2016 10:25 AM

Just curious how many folks are fans of the genre, be it science fiction, fantasy or both, and this includes comics, or just individual series', such as Star Wars.

I like the hits. Read and watched LOTR, Hobbitt, ASOIAF/GOT. Love Star Wars and a LITTLE bit of Star Trek. I'm a fan of the new trek movies.

Cool. If you have Amazon Prime, I would strongly recommend a new addition, Solomon Kane. James Purefoy plays Kane and it's damned good.

Star Wars and X-Files fan here, but not much else in the genre past that.
Wait - does Buck Rogers count? 03-wink

I used to submit to them back in the day. The marketplace has changed dramatically since then.

I'm a fan of Stranger In A Strange Land. By Heinlein.

RE: Science Fiction & Fantasy Poll - UofMemphis - 04-10-2016 08:50 AM

I'm as hard core of Trek fan as they come...but I do enjoy other Sci-Fi like Battlestar (the remake), Star Wars, X-Files, etc

Would it be fair to say that you follow characters more than settings of concepts?

That's a tough question. I'd say I prefer Deep Space Nine to the rest of Trek because of it's outstanding character development...so I would have to answer 'yes'

but good acting, and good story telling is definitely a thing, lol.

I've bee watching 'Star Trek Continues' and this is outstanding stuff for fan work...

Fair enough. I've seen some of the fan stuff and you're right, some is pretty good indeed.

I voted 'neither'. I have no interest in science fiction, and my only fantasies involve either scantily clad, or completely naked, women.

But everyone probably already knew that.

Cut or uncut version?

We had a pretty good idea.

Both. I just love good writing and appreciate when the writer not only crafts a good story, but doesn't limit themselves to an already understood/known setting.

I dig the book. Also Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon.

I haven't read the Pynchon, but Heinlein released an uncut version of Stranger that was much longer than the first. It was his vision of what it should have been, but the editors cut about 40% of the book or so.

RE: Science Fiction & Fantasy Poll - nomad2u2001 - 04-14-2016 09:14 PM

Both, but sci fi will really turn me off quickly if it's anything but the best story I've ever heard.

Okay, fair enough. Any particular sub-genre?
