USM/State may be a slugfest. Both teams struggling with midweek pitching.

Worried a little bit about this week. Going to be a tough week for FAU. Two tough midweek games against @FGCU and hosting Miami then have to hop a plane to play at ODU. Makes for a good scenario as any for ODU this weekend. We will definitely get to see what our bullpen is made of this week.

That would be rare at Trustmark Park in the BBCOR era.

Of course, we had our mind-boggling 36 inning scoreless streak there between 2011 and 2012.

Unless I missed it, I don't think we've hit a home run out of Trustmark in 16 games in the last five seasons since the BBCOR change.

And there were only two hit against us--by Hunter Renfroe from State and Jacob Wilson from Memphis--both of whom were monsters.

64 runs for us over 16 games and that included 10, 11, 12, and 15 inning games.

We love the long ball this year but hopefully Berry reminds the guys that nobody is getting the ball out of that park.

ODU @ UVA moved to Wednesday due to weather

State threw that junk ball pitcher against us every year they had him. Last year was the first in a long time he wasn't on that roster and we won. Hoping we can get the win today as well and keep our SEC streak alive.

Pollorena. He shut us down in relief in 2011 at TP and then again in the Regional that year. We actually saw him one other time after that and hit him pretty hard in 2013 at TP.

Middle Tennessee is 7-3 in the last ten games of the series. Blue Raiders have had better success in Knoxville than at home. MT is 11-14 up there.

RE: 3/29/16 baseball action - nastybunch - 03-29-2016 10:05 PM

USM brought their youth league mid week pitching staff to Jackson tonight and are behind 10-5 in the 8th.. Looks like we aren't going to have the pitching this year to make a run.

RE: 3/29/16 baseball action - eaglenjxn - 03-29-2016 10:10 PM

10-5 State in the 8th. USM threw in the towel in the 7th last inning.

Obviously, that's an opportunity for a big RPI win lost but not really worried abotu that. Just as midweek success didn't get us into the tournament last year, I don't think struggling in the midweek will be the reason we miss this year (if we do).

Trustmark Park definitely not suited for a college team that relies on power and doesn't have much speed in the outfield. State got a lot of infield hits and bloops to the outfield early on and then the wheels just came off in the middle innings, though we were throwing our better relievers.

Definitely some bullpen concerns for this team, though. And with our starters not being workhorses like we've had in the past in terms of innings, this is the thing that worries me most.
