anyone read the dnr this morning? I honestly think that Matt Jones is totally oblivious to the things he is writing and the consequences they might have with the staff.
Instead of leading with the quote by Houston (which mentions he does quite a few things well), he leads by giving the impression Schor is no good.
“I think Bryan does a good job of being self-motivated, self-driven, he takes leadership of the team very seriously,” Houston said. “I think those character traits make him what he is, and I think he’s doing a great job. We’re very, very pleased where he’s at five practices in.”

I dont work with the staff, so im not really worried about my relationship with them. Also, the quote is a reflection of him not me (i hope)

Personally I thought the quotes around the sentence made it pretty clear the thread was an indictment on someone that had made the claim.

"He does good enough at everything"
"Can you really go out there and beat good teams with him?"
The assessment continues and they will have a better idea after the first scrimmage.
It is a valid topic of concern.
The only thing that stands between this team and a CAA championship is the QB. The Dukes are stocked with proven returning players everywhere else.
If Houston doesn't like what he sees then he has to get a D-1 transfer QB after the Spring.

What proven defensive players do we have besides Taylor Reynolds? I do not believe we are stacked on D. I am still shell shocked from Richmond, Tribe and Colgate games

Did you watch this team play at all last year? The QB, whether it's Vad or a freshman walk on, couldn't have prevented that team from self imploding and giving up points in bunches. The defense on this team is the PROBLEM and needs fixed ASAP!

I have no issue with Schor........so he was 2-2 and in his first 4 starts accounted for 11 total TDs (7 passing, 4 running) and one INT. That is pretty darn solid in my book. The offense just needs to keep doing it's thing. It's the defense that needs to take several steps forward this season.

Defensive problems were the system and not the personnel.
Houston will do just fine with the defensive personnel already in place. Lots o' returning players too.
QB is the question Houston has to answer.

If Jones feels the constant need to sensationalize and stir things up he needs to go work for TMZ or something. We don't need whitewashing but reporting on the program with a constructive tone is going to "sell more newspapers" than a hack approach. Schor certainly deserves better than a twisted exaggeration like that.

Agree 100% there. No need to sensationalize and make something out of nothing for a headline about spring practice at JMU. Just report and do your job.
Not to beat a dead horse but I can understand why EW had a rocky relationship with Jones.

I think there is some over reaction to the article.
The 2 statements, one by the writer (Jones) is: Bryan Schor doesn’t do anything exceptional.
The actual quote from Kirkpatrick is: “He does good enough at everything,” Kirkpatrick said after practice Wednesday.
These two statements are not necessarily inconsistent. Doing something "good enough" is not "exceptional." I would say based on his play last season, that is accurate. He was good enough to win 2 of the last 4 regular season games, but not exceptional otherwise we may have won all of the games down the stretch.
I agree that Jones may be trying to catch the reader's attention with a borderline provocative statement, but if you read the whole article including other quotes from the coaches, it is fair, I think.
If Bryan took exception to the article, maybe he will use it as motivation to continue to improve.

Don't subscribe to DNR, and this is why. I used to pay for it until getting fed up with all the negativity towards JMU. Didn't want my $ going towards that.
Having said that, is the article itself a problem or just the headline? Some newspapers have editorial staff that write headlines to "grab attention" independantly of the story author. Not sure if thats the case here or not.

Good point. I have no idea if that's how the DNR does things but often editors will come up with the headline themselves or re-write it. That happens a lot and I've seen many cases where reporters get really frustrated by it.

2 years ago the Dukes had a future NFL player in Dean Marlowe and a future NFL camp invitee in Sage Harold yet the defense sucked. It was all scheme.
