Forbes - Mister Jennings2 - 03-17-2016 06:02 PM

Where is the coach during the NCAA Tournament? Inquiring minds want to know..... I presume he's leaving Las Vegas preparations to the assistants.

RE: Forbes - Bucfaithful - 03-17-2016 06:57 PM

I suspect he's spent some time the last few days at the National JUCO tourney in Hutchinson, KS.

RE: Forbes - RodShaw2 - 03-17-2016 07:18 PM

I think he is supposed to be back in town based on what he told Bobby on Monday

RE: Forbes - Just Buc - 03-19-2016 07:47 AM

In search of a point guard, a couple of shooters and a big (or 2)...

Wow, do tell who all is transferring since we don't have anywhere near that many scholarships.

RE: Forbes - shampoo - 03-19-2016 08:35 AM

I wouldn't be surprised to see Holley and/or Lufile go. How many scholarships would that leave the Bucs with, assuming 2 players do leave?

Edit: We already signed 1 PG. Tevin Glass would get a scholarship. If we lose 4 seniors and 2 players transfer, I suppose that leaves 4 scholarships. Toriano Stokes could (speculatively) also be looking at transferring, but he wasn't on scholarship. I don't see any 3 of the bigs I note getting serious time next year. HMP, PJ, Glass, and Banks should get it all.

RE: Forbes - queenladybug817 - 03-19-2016 09:59 AM

I'm going to guess it might be Holley leaving. But both of them played enough minutes that they gave up a year of eligibility, so they will sit out their senior year wherever they go and then get one more year somewhere? Just seems like a lot of hassle for some additional playtime to me, especially since they both just came to ETSU for a year, but I'm not a 20ish year old player, so what do I know? Or maybe I'm wrong about them having to sit out a year?

I also look at it from a mom perspective too. Watching my stepson transfer and change programs so many times made it feel like he was never going to settle down and graduate. I'm sure their families have a similar concern.

I'll be super optimistic and think no one is leaving and Forbes is looking at some superstar big that's also going to be able to get enough academic scholarships that we don't need to give him a basketball one.

Let the speculation begin...

Ran across this yesterday...Bucs are the only school with 2 on the list. Good to see these guys get some recognition.

RE: Forbes - queenladybug817 - 03-26-2016 11:31 AM

I'd see us losing an assistant coach before we lose Forbes to another "smallish" school. UAB isn't small, I'll admit, but I see Forbes staying here until an offer from a bigger school comes along. Probably 2-3 more years minimum. The assistants? They'd jump ship for a head coach offer, even liking it here.

RE: Forbes - etsuandpurdue3 - 03-26-2016 12:41 PM

UAB is a lateral move. I'd say their assistant takes the job.

RE: Forbes - RodShaw2 - 03-26-2016 01:08 PM

Bring back Mur-Bar.. lol

Hope he holds on, builds, and looks for a Big Five/Big E offer.

UAB coach made 475k last year, not a lateral move in that respect,
that is more than twice what Forbes is making. I do hope he will hold out for a bigger job.

Coach actually made like $850,000 last year but I doubt whoever they hire as the new coach will start off near that.

UAB is not a lateral move per se but at this point in Forbes career I would think he would wait for a bigger job. If he wins the Socon and makes any kind of run next year or in year 3 in the NCAA he would have lots of options.

NO it wouldn't start out anywhere near 850k but probably much more then what he makes now. But I am not worried, whoever wrote that article pulled some names out of thin air. I think UAB will go with the assistant and stay the course.

RE: Forbes - Bucfaithful - 03-27-2016 10:03 AM

As with every (near) offseason, there's a cascading effect of these coaching changes. What if, for example, Will Wade goes to Vandy leaving VCU's HC available? There are several scenarios like this where I cold see Forbes leaving. I don't think it'll happen this season, but it's going to happen sooner than later. In all probability Forbes is going to have a 25+ win season next season. 50-wins in 2 years will position him for a big promotion.

Impressive. Forbes has it going on. I'm sure Sander has a back up plan if Forbes dumps the Dome.

RE: Forbes - shampoo - 03-28-2016 08:34 PM

So help me if we lose Forbes after one season. UAB can have Murry back.
