LOL! But this is one point that I totally agree with Nole. Its small time thinking to think that the ACC should always be in lil ole Greensboro. The ACC is obviously trying to distance itself from such small time ways of doing business. That's why they are experimenting now with DC and NYC.

I'd be down for moving all the big four championships to Charlotte.

You know, It would have been nice to have played in the ACC Tournament, even in Greensboro this Year ! Oh well. Good Luck to the ACC Schools advancing to the NCAA

+1. Good location and a lot more neutral than Greensboro.

Q: besides football, men's basketball and baseball, what you calling the 4th big sport?

Women's hoops is usually played on a neutral site in bigger conferences at the same place the men will play but a week before them.

Yep!
That would be in Greensboro.

They've experienced with DC before. Also have had the ACC Tournament in Atlanta.

Also, Greensboro isn't that small. The Triad is an area that has over 1.6 million people living in it. It certainly isn't NYC, Atlanta or DC , but to call it little is a huge stretch.

Think a three city rotation of Atlanta, Greensboro and DC would be ideal. Not too crazy about NYC.

I've been to Greensboro many times as I have friends who live in High Point. It may not be so small, but it certainly is compared to NYC and DC, and theres not a whole lot to do there for folks coming in from out of town. One thing that it does have for visitors is affordability.
But NYC is the media capital of the world and every media that matters has a presence in NYC. Why would you want some of the media covering your tourney when all the media can take a hop, skip and a jump to cover your tourney?

Its funny that this debate comes up every year. You guys will get used to the new direction of the ACC.

Atlanta just has never worked very well and DC will be a flop.
Realistically I could see every third year played in NYC (if the tournament plays well there next year and the year after) with the other two played in Greensboro.

To be fair, UL not participating is a significant blow. There are more than a few Card fans bouncing around the world. The same goes for it being a HUGE down year for Syracuse. When 2 out of your 4 biggest teams are either down or entirely not playing, excitement is going to be low.

Still, Greensboro tournies are painful for anyone without a blind allegiance to the state of North Carolina.

Washington DC -- depends on attendance.
Atlanta, Charlotte -- a good idea occasionally
Greensboro -- a good location, but small time
New York City -- the mother of all basketball tournament sites

I'm going to make an even more outlandish suggestion than the one about where the tourney should be held.

I think the tourney should be restricted to the top 12 teams only, like the Big East once was in the late 00s.

Why not just the top 8 like the ACC used to be before FSU?

Because there is a history with the tougher Big East that a 9 seed can advance far (SU in 2006 when it was 12 teams and UConn in 2011 when it was 16 both winning it). There is no such history with a 16, 15, 14, or 13 seed. I believe Wake Forest and Miami have made it to the ACC semis as a 12 seed. NC State as both an 11 seed and as a 10 seed.

The bb tourney, regardless of where it is played will be much tighter if it only allowed the Top 12 teams into it. It will never fly, of course, because the coaches are only interested in saving their behinds. But it would be better for the conference overall, imho.

Cheers,
Neil
