Bowie is gone - NiuFootballfan - 02-16-2016 04:15 PM

Tweet from Evan Daniels:
"Northern Illinois wing Darrell Bowie will graduate & transfer, his father Sam Bowie told Scout. Averaged 9.8 & 5.4 in 2014-2015 season."

This should clear some confusion up.

That clears up the scholarship confusion, best of luck to Bowie, a class guy all around!

Maddawg, We told you that Bowie may transfer. You kept saying no way he leaves NIU. There was no spot(scholly) for him.

Yeah obviously the numbers were short, I just figured there was a chance because you rarely do not have anyone leave the program from year to year. This clears up the confusion

Good catch DeKalb- hate to see him go, but we have reinforcements behind him, which is obviously the reason for the transfer.

That's a quality player lost. I'd rather lose Highsmith who hasn't played in three years.

RE: Bowie is gone - dekalb222 - 02-16-2016 04:39 PM

Next year rotation seems set: Porter/Germann-Orris, Wilson/Highsmith, Armstead/Pauga, Bradley/Key or Key/Bradley, Maric/Zelis.

If, Orris's minutes stay down around 10 for rest of the year, he may leave.

Its a smart move for Bowie, his injury is a chronic one, it never had a chance to improve. The upside to Highsmith is extreme if he pans out and can come back. He only has to be half as effective as pre-injury and NIU will be in great shape.

Do not count Highsmith out, he may just surprise you the next two years.

I really hope he does surprise us otherwise he will end up being a player who had flashes of talent and ability but could never develop because of injuries.

DH is fierce competitor. He will be major part of next season.

RE: Bowie is gone - Michael James - 02-16-2016 05:07 PM

Shame he can't be a part of the team next year, loved his passion on the court when he played.

RE: Bowie is gone - Michael James - 02-16-2016 05:07 PM

I bet he transfers to Milwaukee.

Dontel has definitely been lifting I can tell you that. The guy is ripped.

He'll be a senior next year. I don't think that he'll leave with only 1 year of eligibility left. He'll probably stick it out and play his 10 minutes per game.

RE: Bowie is gone - dekalb222 - 02-16-2016 05:55 PM

There may not even be 10 minutes if Germann is ready.

RE: Bowie is gone - cagy cager - 02-17-2016 02:42 AM

A healthy highsmith will get 25 minutes a game the next two seasons if he sticks it out that long.

Wondering why Bowie would leave. If healthy, he was perhaps part of an NCAA tournament team. IF healthy....a BIG part of that team.
The only thought I have is that he is/was worried about his minutes (or, lack thereof), but if a full or even an almost full recovery is expected, he would have been a huge asset to next year's team.
Shame for everyone involved...He was here for all the CR_P...He and we deserve the just rewards...and, he'd likely get them.
