Do you like your US Representative? - Ole Blue - 02-11-2016 04:22 PM

Mine is Scott DesJarlais (TN 4 / GOP) and I cannot stand him. He is like Trump and Cruz smashed into one, not a very pretty combo. If you don't remember, he is the far-right, anti-abortion one who forced his mistress (who was a patient when he was a doctor) to have an abortion... But hey he said it was a mistake and that he prayed about it, so that makes it a-ok! The voters keep putting him back in DC. I don't think there is any other politician in America who I dislike more. What about yours?

Not even 100% sure who mine is right now. Seems to change every 2 months with redistricting, gerrymandering, and lawsuits. Doesn't matter, I don't care for any of them.

Yup. So far so good.

Dave Brat, he's just getting started. Economics professor, fiscal conservative and not overly hung up on the "social" issues.

That and he replaced the entitled Eric Cantor after he apparently completely forgot where he lived and who put him in office.

Wish they would gerrymander me into that district. If the latest lawsuit holds, I'm stuck with Bobby Scott. For those that don't know who he is, think Charlie Rangle.

As long as they aren't liberal, I like and vote for them.

Interesting to see if the Fenno paradox holds up on these boards or not.

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - GrayBeard - 02-11-2016 04:51 PM

My current Rep is Sam Farr (D), but he is retiring. He has been pretty good for our area and has been very good and helpful to some people that I know. I can't complain about him.

You shouldn't lower Cruz and Trump to that guy's level. You may not like Ted Cruz, but I seriously doubt the man would force an abortion on someone.

NO! Mine is a tea party fool named Tim Walberg.

Proof that the American electorate is pretty worthless and typically vote by letters. This guy has some huge moral issues, but hey...let him help run our country.

What has he done that you disagree with? Is he related to Mark?

Do like my US Representative? 03-lmfao

My Congressman is Keith Ellison!
My Senator Al Franken!

My Governor is former old money US Senator Mark Dayton, who was elected because his family started Dayton's departments stores - which later became Target.
One of the Minneapolis Citycoucilpeoplepersons is Alondra Cano, who ran and won as a Socialist in everything but name only, and recently held a forum that promoted removing rich white people from her ward......

Huskie Jebus, plz hope me.

Only thing going for me is that my Councilman is an ex-Target Corp technoweenie and he tends not to get caught up in Minnesota weirdness. Good guy, Andrew Johnson.

You are lucky. I live north of you, which means we get far left types.

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - Owl 69/70/75 - 02-11-2016 05:16 PM

My US representative Kevin Brady.
My US senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.
My governor Greg Abbott.
My lieutenant governor Dan Patrick.
My state senator Robert Nichols.
My state representative Will Metcalf.

Could be a lot worse.

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - bullet - 02-11-2016 05:36 PM

No. Mine is John Lewis who is about as far left as you get.

Didn't like my previous one either. It was John Culberson. He's a prime example of the reason for term limits. He's a Houston representative and thinks its feasible to deport all the illegal aliens. He also is having people from NY vote with him to withhold federal transit funds from Houston for a project voted for by the people and supported by every other Houston representative, including Republicans (I voted against it). I find his e-mails insulting to the intelligence, trying to generate extreme reactions. The previous 2 in that district were George HW Bush and Bill Archer. I guess after 2 great ones, you are due for a dud.

I was very pleased with Bill Archer. In the 90s as the Dems kept losing court cases for their gerrymander of the Texas districts I bounced among a few. I've forgotten who I had. I think I had Mike Andrews (D) and might have had Ron Paul. I know I had Tom Delay who I never voted for (I knew the Dems wouldn't win so I voted for Greens or Libertarians or wrote someone in).

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - Fort Bend Owl - 02-11-2016 05:45 PM

Not really. And my representative is Pete Olson, who is one of the few Rice alums in Congress. He's just a very non-descript politician with no significant accomplishments to his credit. Just a Republican who cruises to victory every term in an extremely conservative district.

I'd be happier with him if I ever saw him at a Rice sporting event (which I don't think would be hard for him to do since he did briefly play basketball at Rice as an undergraduate).

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - 58-56 - 02-11-2016 05:55 PM

No. Mine is a mouth-breathing idiot named Gary Palmer. I seriously believe his IQ to be at least 20 points below average (which come to think of it, makes him pretty smart for an Alabama elected official). Knocked off the establishment Repub (who was at least intelligent, if a little crazy on the abortion thing) by screaming about the taxes and the gays. Gets to Congress and immediately (on his first day there) files a motion to impeach John Boehner, assuring maximum screwage for his district.

Was just gerrymandered into that district. Previous Rep was Democrat Terri Sewell, pretty much a nonentity. She did OK cutting ribbons with giant scissors and congratulating high school bands.

I wrote to Cantor three times during his tenure. Every response that I received was about six months later, and essentially told me to go back to the kiddie table while the adults sorted their fetid mess out.

I voted for Brat.

So long Eric; you aren't missed, not even a little.

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - dawgitall - 02-11-2016 07:13 PM

Well mine was Renee Ellmers ® who is an idiot, carpetbagger, tea partier turned establishment GOPer that doesn't do anything to help her constituents. But then they cut my county into three parts with the east and west parts remaining in the 2nd and the middle placed in the 4th. The middle leans Democratic and has a large AA population so they gerrymandered us into an already leaning Democratic district that is now one of the ones the GOP gives to the Dems so that they control all the rest and keep control of the NC delegation. So now my rep is David Price (D) a solid vet of congress that works well in helping the district constituents and isn't crazy. Of course my vote is now pretty much meaningless.

RE: Do you like your US Representative? - Kaplony - 02-11-2016 07:17 PM

I'm satisfied with Joe Wilson. The few times I have contacted his office they have been helpful when they could, or directed me to who I needed to get in contact with. Best thing is he tells the truth.
