Worst week ever for UC? - doss2 - 02-07-2016 08:58 AM

Depressing!

1. Mediocre FB recruiting signings

2. Still left out of a real conference

3. BB plays brick city and confirms NIT with loss at Memphis.

Takes 3 years until you know how good a football recruiting class is.
Big 12 had meetings, not vote taking on expansion.
BB team has issues.

I went to UC from 1983 to 1988. In terms of sports, I'd say almost every damn week I was there, was worse than this week.

I can vouch for that.

Well this week was depressing to the point I had to step back so I wouldn't get sucked into it. For me it is the sinking feeling that UC isn't tops on the list of expansion targets should that even happen. I've already moved into the acceptance stage.

But at least we have minor league soccer.

Martin breaking his leg was the worst week in the history of weeks.

Yep. Well said. My undergraduate years @ UC were punctuated with Gale Catlett slipping out of town before a heavy duty NCAA probation and watching a losing football team with a few close friends in a rundown, nearly empty Nippert. As a good friend always tells me, the quality of our problems has improved dramatically.

Go Bearcats!

Couldn't agree more Coop 04-bow

But, for me, it was ultimately alleviated by the comfort that it didn't ruin Kenyon's career. Although I still wonder what could have been, I was so glad to see him have such a successful NBA career.

x4. My freshman year at UC was in 1986-87. Football was independent, Dave Currey was the head coach and 5-6 was the final record that season. Hoops was in the Metro Conference, Tony Yates was coach, games were played at Riverfront Coliseum and the team finished 12-16. This was the athletics logo at that time for cryin' out loud:

It was a time of low expectations, low national exposure, low fan interest and low game attendance. We've come a long, long way since those days and I greatly appreciate the journey.

Those of us in Oscar's graduating class I suspect will concede that (at least until last season) football is in a better place now, but with the exception of Huggins' F4 & E8 we are still slogging on the journey to return to the type of success we saw while we were in school along with the 2 1/2 national championships that immediately followed our graduation. Come on guys, we're running out of time to see it.

Our perspective on success is definitely relative to the time of attendance or experience at Cincinnati. I have not experienced a national championship in my time associated with the university, obviously, but I have witnessed a rise in our national profile and facilities since the time I was attending as a student. Back to the OP, and my reply in agreement to other posters, there have been far worse weeks, months, years and decades for the University of Cincinnati athletics than this past week. BTW, hats off to you for witnessing "The Big O" play!

This week hasn't been the best but it could be worse.

A UC grad is on the defensive line on the best defense in the NFL whose team just won SB 50.....horrible week for the 'Cats02-13-banana
