RE: A warning to everyone - olliebaba - 02-02-2016 03:35 PM

"I" think those that can't take it are very thin skinned. There hasn't been anyone here that have ruffled my feathers so to speak and those that have tried only make me laugh. Instinctively, by their post history I know where they lean and I take that as a grain of salt.

In my life I've worked with the best in put downs. The military and fire department. If it got to you there you'd be out of work or in jail because of fisticuffs. You have to learn to take it, then dish it out without taking it further than words.

That's all well and good, but do you honestly believe that there is one poster here who can't as you say "take it" without being able to "dish it out"? Really?

I'd sure like to know who it is, because it sure ain't me, Mach, Robert, Fit, you, Paul, Stink, HOD, Fo, Owl #'s, DefConn, JMU, Bizzle, ER, etc.......

And is there really something wrong with civil discussions with differences of opinion and philosophy presented without resorting to name calling and childish put-downs? We can't have discussions about topics without chastising others just because they have a different political lean than us?

Items get reported because folks believe they violate the rules of this site that have been setup by the owner and those he has entrusted to moderate it...at least that's what I do. It's not because my "feelings" are hurt, trust me. I'd much rather reply back with a bunch of insults and put-downs right back at them...but what does that really solve? Most problems in life are never fixed by either ignoring them or physically brawling over them. 03-wink

RE: A warning to everyone - olliebaba - 02-02-2016 04:01 PM

Really? You're talking about posters that resort to name calling and you don't see yourself in your post? I think you need to go back and re-read some of your posts. There's more than sufficient evidence to support my posts about resorting to name calling by you.

RE: A warning to everyone - EverRespect - 02-02-2016 04:06 PM

I can still honestly say I have never once reported anyone for anything on this site, nor do I ever intend to. Only exception would be if someone posted my real name, address, phone number, place of employment, etc. Some started reporting everything when this board blew up a year or so ago. I didn't partake. I would hope that, if I cross the line, all would retrun the favor and shoot me a PM instead of reporting.

Yup. We used to have a sign on our bulletin board that read: "If you don't want your feelings hurt you better leave them in your glove box." There's a couple of people on here who are so sensitive they wouldn't have made it past shift change at our fire house.

And you should re-read what I just posted. Nowhere did I absolve myself.

That being said, if you think that I am the instigator of the majority of it, you're sadly mistaken. My sins are way more often than not directly related to being "attacked" first. And just for the record, I'm only speaking to after the initial attempt was made to clean up this place last year.

I can show you cases where my name is brought up in threads and several posts are made about me, usually totally unrelated to the actual thread even, and I had not even posted in the thread yet! The mods want the posts to be about the topic and not about the individual posters. No, I'm not trying to be a moderator, it's actually one of their rules! 03-wink

As I just posted above, you're confusing people following the laid out rules with those having their personal sensitivities offended. I know of no one here that can't "take it".

Why? So you can then use your overworked report post button to report it as a personal attack?

Anyone who has been here more than a week knows EXACTLY who I am talking about.

Been here quite awhile. Can't think of one actual poster personally offended by these childish insults. However, doxing is another matter altogether.

If you're saying it's me: First, you don't know me at all. Second, I think the childishness and desperation of them is absolutely hilarious, and rarely even accurate. To me, it just means that the offender has got nothing left of substance to debate. And for the ones about me on threads that I haven't even participated in yet, that says to me that I'm constantly in your head...and that sure seems like those offenders are the ones who are being overly sensitive. 03-wink

it's impossible to tell, though. and it's a pretty dire threat to be so completely undefined in terms of whatever the offense was. all we know is that they're pissed because they had to read stuff.

any political forum is going to have some elbow-throwing; it's the nature of the beast. I suspect they're going to break the forum again.

Maybe he's right. I mean what kind of a chuckle-head would repeatedly report someone cause they were called a dick or a water carrier.

RE: A warning to everyone - UTSAMarineVet09 - 02-02-2016 04:40 PM

I have never known a poster that would report a post just because he got mentioned in it, without any insults, until now...

Don't put words in my mouth. I'm not in the protected liberal class around here so I'm actually subject to forum discipline.

But like my Grandmama used to always say "Bit dog hollers the worst."

Anyone that goes running to the playground monitor to "report" someone for anything other than personal info or other items Ever mentioned is the very definition of not being able to "take it".

Good grief, people. My 16YO daughter calls me worse schit than anything I've seen here.

Some of these delicate sensibilities may just need to take a breath, have another chai latte and maybe do a push up or two.

It's a damn political sandbox, sands gonna get tossed. 07-coffee3
