The worst part of all of this - George Can'tStandYa - 01-30-2016 10:15 PM

Is that what a whole lot of people said would happen when Cal left...happened. The reality is different, but for the "perception is reality" crowd. ALL of our success, was Calipari, not the university, not our history. Just Cal. It's a wrong argument, but it is a winning one, and that effing hurts.

Bad hire after cal. The Memphis brand can easily be revived with a competent coach.

If we'd hired Bruce when the chance arose we'd been back to kicking butts.....top 25 butts as well.....

And our success in the 70s was because of Bartow and our success in the 80s was because of Kirk. What's your point?

It's a minimum three year job to turn what's going to be left after this year into a viable NCAA team that's has a legitimate chance to see the second weekend. You can pretty much write off basketball for this year and AT LEAST the next 2 years.

Bring in rick stansbury and u can turn this baby around. Had a great career with MSU. Now seems to have things going at A&M as head assistant. Hes ur guy for the time being and wouldnt have to buy him out of his contract.

Not as hard to do as it used to be. Pretty used to writing it off at this point.

You very well could be right in the timeline.

At least football looks competitive, so there's a winner. Norvell and his staff are making a serious push in recruiting. Considering he was hired on December 4, the job thus far is remarkable. One wonders what he'll accomplish with a full season/cycle to recruit.

Another good name to add to the list.

Aren't you one of those guys who complains about others bringing up basketball topics in the middle of football season?

Hire Bruce in 2009, and we're looking for a new coach a year later. Show cause and all.

Nah, look what JF did with FB. BBall should be much easier to get back on track, with the right coach that is.

In this case can't be. No talented experience to build around.

Won't have much of a first recruiting class. So year 1 (hopefully next year) will be .500 +/-

Year 2 - NIT hopefully.

Year 3 NCAA - hopefully

Year 4 NCAA - hopefully a threat to see the 2nd week end.

The above is a real likely scenario unless you get a big time, big name hire like Larry Brown or Bruce Pearl. Then, yeah maybe we're viable again in Year 2 (2017-18) instead of year 3 (2018-19).
